Supporting the Future Total Force

As the Air Force faces manpower end-strength reductions of approximately 40,000 active duty personnel, it becomes more difficult to support the air and space expeditionary force (AEF) construct using current force employment practices. These manpower reductions could leave the active component without sufficient end-strength personnel authorizations to support current operational requirements. The Air National Guard (ANG), on the other hand, will not undergo significant manpower reductions, but it will be affected by the Air Force structure planning under way in support of the Quadrennial Defense Review (QDR) and Base Realignments and Closure (BRAC) that calls for the retirement of a significant number of legacy aircraft. This could potentially leave the ANG with a large number of highly trained, highly experienced personnel with no aircraft to operate and support.

Fighter Drawdown Dynamics

The number of fighter aircraft in the Air Force inventory is decreasing, but the demand for experienced fighter pilots is increasing. The authors use a dynamic mathematical model to show that, to keep from damaging fighter unit readiness, fighter pilot production in the active Air Force must be reduced and new approaches to developing and managing personnel with fighter pilot-like skills must be adopted.

The U.S. Navy wants to provide its shipbuilders with appropriate incentive to produce militarily effective vessels at minimum cost to the Navy. It can induce a shipbuilder to agree to any contractual arrangement by offering the shipbuilder a high enough price. But it is likely to be preferable, at least ex ante, for the Navy to dissipate risk external to its shipbuilder to pay less for the systems the Navy needs. The Navy uses external labor- and material-cost indexes to attempt to correct for significant cost risks outside its shipbuilders? control. Shipbuilder profits are greater when actual.

If monsters aren't real, why do I kill so many of them? I've spent the last five years training as a vampire hunter. My goal is to hunt, maim, and kill as many of the bastards as I can. They're infecting our city and each time I manage to kill one, five more spring up in its place. The vampire hunter's council is breathing down my neck, but I'm already working 25 hours a day, eight days a week. Then one night, everything changes. I make a mistake and a vampire catches me. He doesn't kill me, though. Instead, he brings me into his lair and he makes me question...everything. What if everything I've ever been taught has been a lie? What if the vampires aren't the real monsters? What if it's me? Megan Slays Vampires is a standalone steamy paranormal romance by Sophie Stern, author of Honeypot Darlings and Shifters of Rawr County. If you enjoy this story, check out her other vampire books: Vampire Kiss, Eternity, and Chaotic Wild.
