Comercio exterior en la frontera Colombo-Ecuatoriana.
Las provincias de Esmeraldas, Carchi y Sucumbíos, por el lado ecuatoriano, y los departamentos de Nariño y Putumayo, por el lado colombiano, presentan unos fenómenos económicos oscilatorios interdependientes y recíprocos que generan temporadas de crisis y de auge comercial a cada lado de la frontera. El objetivo de este trabajo, en primer lugar, es indagar cuáles son las variables que determinan esos comportamientos tan particulares; y, en segundo lugar, proponer mecanismos de estabilización que, desde la generación de políticas locales, permita detener el péndulo de oscilación económica entre ambas franjas fronterizas, para generar así estabilidad económica.

Este libro, desde una visión que busca potenciar las economías y el comercio en la Zona de Integración Fronteriza Ecuatoriana-colombiana, invita al lector a adaptarse a un entorno de inestabilidad, regido por una dinámica cambiante que define las actividades económicas de la zona limítrofe entre ambas naciones. El libro permite analizar las dos franjas geográficas en interrelación y articulación de acciones conjuntas, que coadyuven a superar contextos de incertidumbre para sobrevivir y competir en el mercado global.

Infrastructure—electricity, telecommunications, roads, water, and sanitation—are central to people’s lives. Without it, they cannot make a living, stay healthy, and maintain a good quality of life. Access to basic infrastructure is also a key driver of economic development. This report lays out a framework for understanding infrastructure resilience - the ability of infrastructure systems to function and meet users’ needs during and after a natural hazard. It focuses on four infrastructure systems that are essential to economic activity and people’s well-being: power systems, including the generation, transmission, and distribution of electricity; water and sanitation—especially water utilities; transport systems—multiple modes such as road, rail, waterway, and airports, and multiple scales, including urban transit and rural access; and telecommunications, including telephone and Internet connections.

This volume delves into the literary lives of four Muslim women in pre-modern India. Three of them, Gulbadan Begam (1523-1603), the youngest daughter of Emperor Babur, Jahanara (1614-1681), the eldest daughter of Emperor Shah Jahan, and Zeb-un-Nissa (1638-1702), the eldest daughter of Emperor Aurangzeb, belonged to royalty. The growth of institutional capacity in the developing world has become a central theme in twenty-first-century social science. Many studies have shown that public institutions are an important determinant of long-run rates of economic growth. This book argues that to understand the difficulties and pitfalls of state building in the contemporary world, it is necessary to analyze previous efforts to create institutional capacity in conflictive contexts.
