Elective Affinities
From the nineteenth century to the present, literary entanglements between Latin America and East Central Europe have been socio-politically and culturally diverse, but never random. The Iron Curtain, in particular, forced both regions to negotiate transatlantic «elective affinities», to take a stance in relation to the West, and to position themselves within world literature. As a result, the intellectual fields and creative productions of these regions have critically engaged with notions such as «post-imperial», «marginal», or «peripheral». In this edited volume, scholars from Germany, Brazil, Czech Republic, Hungary, Mexico, Poland, Slovenia, and Spain cross the globe from South to East and back to uncover transcultural and transareal convivialities. Their papers explore literary history, poetics, intellectual networks, and aesthetic theory, while discussing new key concepts in global literary history.

Recognition of Belligerency and the Law of Armed Conflict
Prior to the progressive development of the law of armed conflict heralded by the 1949 Geneva Conventions most particularly in relation to the concepts of international and non-international armed conflict-the customary doctrine on recognition of belligerency functioned for almost 200 years as the definitive legal scheme for differentiating internal conflict from "civil wars", in which the law of war as applicable between states applied de jure. Employing a legal historical approach, this book describes the thematic and practical fundamentals of the doctrine, and analyzes some of the more significant challenges to its application. In doing so, it assesses whether, how, and why the doctrine on recognition of belligerency was considered "fit for purpose," and seeks to inform debate as to its continuity and utility within the modern scheme of the law of armed conflict.

Las relaciones entre Checoslovaquia y América Latina 1945-1989. En los archivos de la República Checa
Čtveřice autorů prezentuje první rozsáhlejší pokus o mapování vztahů Československa a Latinské Ameriky v období studené války. Vzhledem k tomu, že doposud není k dispozici sekundární literatura (s výjimkou nedávných časopiseckých studií a velmi omezeného počtu publikací starších), je práce opřena téměř výlučně o pramenný materiál, zejména z Archivu Ministerstva zahraničních věcí, Národního archivu a Archivu bezpečnostních složek. Výzkum ukázal různou intenzitu zájmu československých politických a ekonomických elit o jednotlivé země regionu, preferována byla Brazílie, Argentina, Mexiko a po roce 1959 Kuba. Současně je také patrná pragmatizace čs. zahraniční politiky, formálně byly sice zdůrazňovány politické a ideologické priority, v praxi však udržovalo Československo výhodně ekonomické vztahy i s brutálními vojenskými režimy (zvláště s Argentinou).
