Addresses the theoretical and pedagogical implications of redefining French Studies as an interdisciplinary field, while providing practical examples of the kind of criticism that such a shift would entail.
This volume represents the wide range of interests that comprise applied linguistics today. Contains new approaches to such current topics as discourse analysis, code-switching, second-language acquisition, and functional/notational syllabi for language teaching.
I would like to share most of my archaeological adventures and discoveries, by offering a panorama of my career path likely to interest different categories of readers. Each chapter works autonomously and can be read independently from the others. This volume includes publication extracts in French or Spanish, some of them in English, Italian or German. The selection of texts, as well as images that are by the author, reflects the progresses of my investigations and the adopted methods. The introductions to the chapters ensure the connection and cohesion of the whole work. The first part deals with the study of objects, for the mostly part Etruscan vases examined in the main museums in Paris, Rome, the Vatican, Brussels, London, Madrid, Tunisia etc. The second part concerns my excavations and fieldworks in France, Italy, Spain, Western Sahara and Tunisia. The last part brings out the methodological, cultural and interdisciplinary aspects of my career.
An annotated bibliography of works concerning the second language classroom, and especially oral language instruction, has four sections. The first addresses general issues in second language instruction: its nature, the component parts, goals, and problems. The second part focuses on the classroom participants, teachers and learners, and the kinds of exchanges that occur in the classroom, group dynamics, the teacher's preparations, the teacher's role in classroom communication, correction of errors, and evaluation of oral expression. The third section contains items concerning the evolution or unfolding of the class from the point of view of theme and mood. The fourth section looks at pedagogical trends and the implications of their application. Annotations of works published in French are written in French; those of works published in English are written in English. (MSE).
