El carnaval de Tenosique, Tabasco, es el marco social en el que actualmente se reproduce la representación del Pochó. Dado que el tiempo ha obrado para generar una intricada relación entre uno y otro, fue necesario llevar a cabo un cuidadoso estudio de ambas manifestaciones festivas para poder comprender tanto el contexto propio de la dramatización del Pochó, como su papel en el ámbito comunitario más general, particularmente en el de carácter festivo. Por las características que guarda el carnaval de Tenosique, la investigación del Pochó implicó una deconstrucción inicial de los discursos habituales propuestos para el análisis del carnaval, así como una revisión crítica de algunos de los documentos centrales que han tratado de describirlo e interpretarlo. El resultado es un trabajo etnológico y etnográfico que busca documentar y, a su vez, encontrar ciertas rutas de explicación para una manifestación cultural compleja que no puede resistir una sola interpretación, pues su carácter aparentemente numinoso exige el concurso de diferen- tes miradas analíticas.
