100% pure MR imaging of the CNS...comprehensive, up to date, essential The imaging quality achievable in MR imaging today was inconceivable just a few years ago. No other subdiscipline has evolved so swiftly while placing ever-greater emphasis on fast and accurate results. This book is intended as an indispensable tool at the workplace, as reference for image interpretation, and even for fast orientation during the examination. Adjunct information is provided that fosters the dialogue with referring physicians: for most diseases and conditions there are summaries of epidemiology, clinical findings, pathogenesis and pathophysiology, as well as basic therapy concepts. Special features: A fast-...

Magnetic Resonance Imaging of the Skeletal Musculature

In the past, MRI has often been assigned a subsidiary role in the diagnostic work-up of muscular diseases owing to the frequent inability of routine MRI protocols to detect pathognomonic findings. This situation is changing with the advent of modern MR imaging techniques that offer deeper insights into various surrogate pathophysiologic parameters. In this book, recognized experts from around the world provide a comprehensive overview of the value of cutting-edge MRI for the assessment of normal and diseased skeletal muscle. A range of aspects are covered, from the general role of MRI in imaging the skeletal musculature, including in comparison with ultrasonography, through to the current value of MRI in the diagnostic work-up of different diseases. In addition, several chapters present research findings in respect of modern morphological and functional MRI techniques and provide examples of the added value provided by these techniques when evaluating muscular diseases.

Pathology

Pathology is a diagnostic medical specialty dealing with the evaluation of tissues and body fluids to diagnose disease and predict prognosis or response to treatment. In particular, a biopsy is the “gold standard” in the diagnostics of certain diseases, especially tumours. Pathology - From Classics to Innovations is a collection of original peer-reviewed studies and review articles by a truly global scientific team on the recent advances in pathology. Chapters discuss classic surgical pathology and the application of microscopic tissue studies in anatomic research, immunohistochemistry, molecular pathology, liquid biopsy, and digital pathology.

Case Reports in Multiple Sclerosis and Neuroimaging, volume III - 2023

This Research Topic aims to collect all the Case Reports submitted to the Multiple Sclerosis and Neuroimmunology. All the Case Reports submitted to this collection will be personally assessed by a senior Associate Editor before the beginning of the peer-review process. Please make sure your article adheres to the following guidelines before submitting it. Case Reports highlight unique cases of patients that present with an unexpected diagnosis, treatment outcome, or clinical course. Only Case Reports that are original and significantly advance the field will be considered: 1) RARE case with TYPICAL features. 2) FREQUENT case with ATYPICAL features. 3) Cases with a convincing response to new treatments, i.e. single case of off-label use.

Abstract: Objective Blindness is a feared complication of giant cell arteritis (GCA). However, the spectrum of pathologic orbital imaging findings on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in GCA is not well understood. In this study, we assess inflammatory changes of intraorbital structures on black blood MRI (BB-MRI) in patients with GCA compared to age-matched controls. Methods In this multicenter case-control study, 106 subjects underwent BB-MRI. Fifty-six patients with clinically or histologically diagnosed GCA and 50 age-matched controls without clinical or laboratory evidence of vasculitis were included. All individuals were imaged on a 3-T MR scanner with a post-contrast compressed-sensing...

Abstract: Background Flow diverters (FD) are used regularly for the endovascular treatment of unruptured intracranial aneurysms. We aimed to assess the safety and effectiveness of the Derivo embolization device (DED) with respect to long-term clinical and angiographic outcomes. Methods A prospective multicenter trial was conducted at 12 centers. Patients presenting with modified Rankin Score (mRS) of 0-1, treated for unruptured intracranial aneurysms with DED were eligible. Primary endpoint was the mRS assessed at 18 months with major morbidity defined as mRS 3-5. Satisfactory angiographic occlusion was defined as 3+4 on the Kamran scale. Results Between July 2014 and February 2018, 119 pati...
