This bibliography, first published in 1979, is a guide to serials and periodicals in Arabic, English, French and other European languages published in the Arab countries or in the Western hemisphere. Arab serials and periodicals are considered primary sources of information on subject matters related to the Arab world. Lack of comprehensive bibliographies of Arab serials in the English language has hindered the work of librarians and Middle East specialists who need to identify a large number of such publications published in and about the Arab world. This bibliography is a research tool designed specifically to fill that gap.

From Kamptee to Dallas

Web Text Introduction There is a general perception about the authors of autobiographies that they tell truth about other people while they need to tell truth about themselves. I have tried to be objective throughout my book and highlighted my failures and mistakes too. The present book is an account of my life that began on February 8, 1947, when I was born in the Sarpanch Mohammad Khurshid Haq family in a small town on the banks of the river Kanhan known as Kamptee in India. Sarpanch is a title used for the head of Panchayat. The title remained in our family for three generations. After my father died, Anis bhaijan (elder brother) would have become the next sarpanch, but he had already mig...

Vision For The World: Eye Surgeons' Solution To Mass Blindness — A Major World Medical Problem

The problem of mass blindness today stems largely from cataract which accounts for a total of 40 million cataract victims in the world — and it will worsen with the ageing population. Fortunately, this problem can be resolved with cost effective extracapsular cataract extraction (ECCE) and posterior chamber implantation (PCI).This book highlights how the use of ECCE and PCI can restore normal vision to cataract victims around the world.A successful approach is to establish training centres. The success of the International Intraocular Implant Training Centre (IIITC) in the Peoples' Republic of China is cited to show that implant surgery for cataracts can be successfully performed in communities in developing nations in Asia with appropriate training and supervision. The centre has since yielded excellent results with cost effective ECCE and PCI. The book challenges eye surgeons around the world to unite to address a global need to contain world cataract blindness.

Well-considered answers to the many questions raised by the situation in Iraq, past and present, are rare. This first comprehensive, thematically organised, bibliography devoted to Iraq is based on the full Index Islamicus database and is drawn from a wide variety of European-language journals and books. Featuring an extensive introduction to the subject and its literature by Peter Sluglett, this bibliography will help readers to find their way through the massive secondary literature now available. Following the pattern established by the Index Islamicus, both journal articles and book publications are included, as well as important internet resources. The editors have taken care to add much new material to bring its coverage up to date, and supplement the previously published volumes, while the most important and/or influential publications are conveniently highlighted in the introduction. An indispensable gateway for all those with a more than superficial interest in what is, and what has been, happening in this nation so much the focus of attention today.
