La trayectoria poética de Rafael Cadenas (Barquisimeto, Venezuela, 1930) presenta una extrema coherencia en la que se engarzan de forma sucesiva los diferentes libros de poemas junto con los ensayos, que en su mayor parte han servido para apoyar sus temas o incidir en los aspectos tratados, dialogando de forma visible con su poesía, con lo que constituyen una especie de summa literaria.
