This volume is published in honour of Professor Takamitsu Muraoka on the occasion of his retirement from the Chair of Hebrew, Israelite Antiquities and Ugaritic at Leiden University, a date which coincides with the celebration of his sixty-fifth birthday. The laureate is well known for his expertise in the languages of the Bible and cognate studies and this volume includes contributions covering as far as possible the wide field of his interests. Some of his friends and colleagues from all parts of the world are presenting him with this valuable collection of forty-two articles. They include studies on the Greek of the Septuagint; Hebrew (Biblical and Qumran); Aramaic (Old, Offical and Qumran; Syriac and Neo-Aramaic); Canaanite (Amarna, Ugaritic and Phoenician-Punic); Medieval Jewish exegesis and Karaite studies. M.F.J. Baasten and W.Th. van Peursen, two former students of Muraoka at Leiden, have edited the volume.

Untersuchungen zur verbalen Valenz im biblischen Hebräisch
Im biblischen Hebräisch bestimmt wie in anderen Sprachen die Valenz eines Verbs die Zahl und die Form der Ergänzungen. Die Form verbaler Ergänzungen kann jedoch variieren. Wichtige Aspekte dieser Variation werden im vorliegenden Band umfassend beschrieben und erklärt, wobei syntaktische, semantische und sprachgeschichtliche Gesichtspunkte berücksichtigt werden. Im einzelnen werden die Markierung direkter Objekte und der Wechsel zwischen direkten Objekten und Präpositionalobjekten beziehungsweise zwischen verschiedenen Präpositionen bei Präpositionalobjekten untersucht. Der Gebrauch der Präposition Lamed bei Infinitiven und unterschiedliche Konstruktionen zum Ausdruck der Wahrnehmung von Sachverhalten werden ebenfalls behandelt. Das Buch liefert dadurch einen Beitrag zum Verständnis der althebräischen Syntax, der Semantik bestimmter syntaktischer Konstruktionen und der geschichtlichen Entwicklung des biblischen Hebräisch. Es richtet sich an Alttestamentler, Hebraisten und andere sprachwissenschaftlich Interessierte.

L'âme des autres nous est fermée. Ce qu'on dit de soi, y compris dans un journal intime, ce qu'on donne à voir à ses amis, à sa famille, à ceux qu'on aime, n'est jamais identique, et peut-être faux. Shuji Muraoka, écrivain japonais de la première moitié du XXe siècle librement inspiré d'Osamu Dazai, ressentit très tôt que vivre lui était un fardeau. Entre rejet de sa famille et de la société capitaliste, goût pour les femmes et addictions, il poursuivit son oeuvre littéraire. Échouant plusieurs fois à se suicider, cette mort qu'il appelait ne voulait pas de lui. La reconstitution d'une vie à travers des récits, des témoignages ou un journal intime révèle les multiples facettes d'un homme, donc l'infinie difficulté de connaître une personnalités - démarche encore plus périlleuse, et fascinante, quand il s'agit d'un écrivain.
