Welcome Me to the Kingdom

Bangkok, 1980. As the decades pass, figures fall in and out of the relentless city: Pea and Nam, who arrive in search of a better life; a Thai Elvis impersonator and his only daughter, Pinky; Benz, Tintin and Big, a brotherhood of orphaned strayboys; Rick, the white American patriarch who abandons his Thai family when the going gets tough; Hasmah, whose bloody, hidden work is driven by secessionist rage. Sex tourism, Buddhist cults, gambling rings and skin-whitening routines threaten to take over a city reeling from financial crisis - in a nation constantly reinventing itself, anything can happen. In the temples, slums, and gated estates of late-twentieth century Bangkok, Welcome Me to the Kingdom exposes the schemes and strategies, the lies and betrayals, that inch its characters tantalisingly closer to 'the good life'. Wildly imaginative and ambitious, Mai Nardone's immersive debut announces the arrival of an extraordinary new voice, and captures the growing discrepancy between Thailand's smiling self-image and its ugly reverse. Seen through a haze of covert agreements and cigarette smoke, these unforgettable stories capture a kingdom caught between this world and the next.

Chasing Kites

Chasing Kites is unflinching look at growing up with ADHD at a time in which there was little to no awareness. If you want to know and feel what someone with ADHD goes through, there is not a better way to understand than Chasing Kites. Tom Nardone shares his personal stories in the most honest and genuine fashion. Some of which are hysterically funny, while others are quite moving and touching. Through these stories, Tom connects with his readers by actually explaining what was going through his mind, and/or his thought process at the time which they occurred. Tom, for more than half of his life, was not accepted by the majority of his peers. He did not fit into any of society's norms. This ...

The Art of Change provides practitioners with in-depth information on the theory and practice of strategic therapy, presenting an innovative approach to conceptualizing and solving human problems. This groundbreaking volume concentrates on solution-oriented treatment of some of the most difficult pathologies - anorexia, bulimia and vomiting (as a separate category introduced by Nardone et al). The logic and apparent simplicity of the way these complex conditions are treated is truly outstanding. As opposed to a long-drawn psychotherapy, Nardone and his colleagues offer a relatively short period of treatment, consisting of dialogue between the patient and the therapist, and sometimes the patient's family. The patient is also given some "homework" to do in-between the sessions. Rather than looking at the "why" of the situation, this approach looks at "how" the problem manifests itself and what can be done about it. The book starts by outlining the pathologies and the logic behind this type of brief therapy. It then moves on to examine particular case studies and the reader gets immersed in the fascinating dialogue between the therapist and the client.

In 1993 the authors published The Art of Change: Strategic Therapy and Hypnotherapy Without Trance, a revolutionary work that introduced a series of effective clinical strategies to create therapeutic change, even in seemingly impossible cases. In his new book, the author performs another quantum leap, leading his readers to a more operative knowledge of the precise logic of therapeutic change. Most intimidating mental disorders are based on perceptions of reality that when using an ordinary 'common-sense' logic as our reading lens, look as if they are irrational, bizarre, illogical and therefore hard to understand and manage.
