Available online: https://pub.norden.org/nord2023-040/ There has never been a more urgent time to document how climate change is affecting our communities and our planet – and what we can do to adapt. Around the world, young people have been at the forefront of climate action, highlighting the effects of rising greenhouse gas emissions and demanding more from politicians and corporations. It was with these two notions in mind that the Nordic-Canadian Fellowship in Environmental Journalism was born: a chance for emerging journalists under 25 from the two regions to report on some of the biggest threats and opportunities related to the climate crisis. ‌This anthology features the work of t...

It is an opera, serious, but also full of joy and life and, at times humour. The book (without sacrificing any of the major pieces or losing the thread of the themes of family and food) borrows its structure from opera. It has an overture, two major acts or portions, separated by a very moving intermezzo, and finished off with a finale. There are tragic notes, of course (no opera is complete without them) but also notes of exuberance. To Make a Bridge has arias, duets, choruses -- everything that makes it worth reading and watching.

Thinking about the Elgin Marbles

  • Categories: Law

The new edition of this insightful work begins with a critical reexamination of the rival Greek and British claims to the Elgin Marbles. That case study identifies the questions that continue to dominate the growing international debate about cultural property policy and which are subsequently explored in a newly expanded array of essays. The work goes on to pay particular attention to the law and policy relating to cultural property export controls and the evolution and development of the 1995 UNIDROIT Convention on the Return of Stolen and Illegally Exported Cultural Property. The second part of this highly regarded book addresses a number of contemporary art law issues in essays on counterfeit art, the moral rights of artists, the artist's resale right (droit de suite),the litigation over the Mark Rothko estate, and problems of museum trustee negligence, conflict of interests, and misuse of inside information.

A trickster named Coyote rules her world, until a funny-looking stranger named Columbus changes her plans. Unimpressed by the wealth of moose, turtles, and beavers in Coyote's land, he'd rather figure out how to hunt human beings to sell back in Spain. Thomas King uses a bag of literary tricks to shatter the stereotypes surrounding Columbus's voyages. In doing so, he invites children to laugh with him at the crazy antics of Coyote, who unwittingly allows Columbus to engineer the downfall of his human friends. William Kent Monkman's vibrant illustrations perfectly complement this amusing story with a message.
