Relationships with Families in Early Childhood Education and Care radically challenges the role assigned to parents in neoliberal discussions of early childhood education and care, and presents new ways of thinking about relationships with families. With contributions from international early childhood scholars and practitioners, this book includes outlooks of practitioners, families and children, particularly about the meanings they assign to relationships. Bringing together key understandings about how parent-partnerships can be understood, this book provides innovative examples of how to enact democratic partnerships with parents in diverse contexts. Relationships with Families in Early Childhood Education and Care is an ideal text for ECEC practitioners and policy makers, trainers, graduate students and researchers.
Recent migratory flows to Europe have brought about considerable changes in many countries. Italy in particular offers a unique point of view, since it is possible to observe not only the way migration has changed specific features of the country, but also how it is intertwined with gender relations. Considering both the type of migration that has affected Italy and the consequent measures adopted by the Government, a variety of distinctive elements may be seen. By providing a broad and more complete picture of the Italian perspective on gender and migration, this book makes a valuable contribution to the wider debate. The contributions consider the problematic linkage between gender and mig...
The Iranian revolution of 1978–1979 uprooted and globally dispersed an enormous number of Iranians from all walks of life. Bitter political relations between Iran and the West have since caused those immigrants to be stigmatized, marginalized, and politicized, which, in turn, has discredited and distorted Iranian migrants’ social identity; subjected them to various subtle and overt forms of prejudice, discrimination, and social injustice; and pushed them to the edges of their host societies. The Iranian Diaspora presents the first global overview of Iranian migrants’ experiences since the revolution, highlighting the similarities and differences in their experiences of adjustment and i...

Much more than simply recording events, pedagogical documentation is a revolutionary educational approach that enables practitioners to capture and understand the ways in which children learn and think. Exploring the use of pedagogic documentation across five different cultures, this book offers a unique insight into the conditions and methods through which pedagogical documentation might become an effective means of connecting teaching and learning. By drawing on theory, research-based evidence and practice, Understanding Pedagogic Documentation in Early Childhood Education reveals pedagogic documentation as an instigator for critical reflection on practice, for the creation of new pedagogi...
The volume collects the papers of colleagues, friends and collaborators submitted during the conference "L'infanzia nella figura di Enzo Catarsi" ("Childhood in the figure of Enzo Catarsi), held in Florence on April 29, 2014. The conference was organised by the Department of Education and Psychology of the University of Florence, in collaboration with the Tuscany Region and the Istituto degli Innocenti, to remember the scholar Enzo Catarsi. With his death, the Department, the Municipalities of Tuscany, the community of pedagogists, the students and his closest collaborators are missing a reference figure and a personality of great scientific, cultural and human importance, with high educational ideals, great humanity, optimism, lightness and enthusiasm.
