Die hier vorgelegte Bestandsaufnahme zur Geschichte des Don-Juan-Stoffes in der russischen Literatur untersucht über 40 Dramen, Gedichte, Vers- und Prosaerzählungen sowie einen Roman, die den Stoff in vielfältigster Weise verarbeiten. Die Spanne reicht von Puškins „kleiner Tragödie“ (1833) bis zu einem historischen Abenteuerroman aus dem Jahr 2010. Schwerpunkte bilden Gedichte und Dramen des Silbernen Zeitalters sowie die Dramatik der 1970er und 1980er Jahre. Das Buch erhält durch die Gliederung nach Einzeltexten bzw. kleinen Textgruppen einen handbuchartigen Charakter, im Bereich der Lyrik zudem den einer Anthologie, da alle Texte im Original und in dichterischer Übertragung dargeboten werden. Um Komparatisten den Zugang zu erleichtern, wurden alle Zitate übersetzt und zu Autoren und literaturgeschichtlichen Zusammenhängen einordnende Erläuterungen gegeben.
