C.O. Paeffgen
This retrospective catalogue shows many of the artist's works from all of his creative periods, including his legendary 'Umrandungen' (borders or outlines), which have become a kind of trademark for C.O. Paeffgen since the 1980s, as well as some of his large-format wall and floor sculptures from the 'Umwicklungen' (wrappings) work series, in which wire is wound around countless everyday found objects.A selection of his 'object-crates' is also presented: lapidary fruit and vegetable crates, which rise to the position of multiform 'objects in colour'. Motifs typical of the artist's work, such as the question mark, the heart, the arrow, the mouse, the bow and the moon reappear again and again in very diverse contexts.His contemporaries confronted Paeffgen with ironic comments; his art is sensitive, caring and not at all cynical. Otto Piene. Alchemist und Himmelsstürmer/ Alchemist and Stormer of the Skies
Als Mitbegründer von ZERO zählt Otto Piene zu den Protagonisten der abstrakten Kunst nach 1945. Nach der Auflösung ZEROS 1966 im Bahnhof Rolandseck entwickelte er sein Oeuvre zeitlebens in unterschiedlichsten Werkstoffen weiter. Mit einem Fokus auf wiederkehrende Motive wie den Kreis als Symbol für den Kosmos spiegelt der Katalog sein Schaffen in einer großen Bandbreite wider: von den frühen Raster-, Feuer- und Raucharbeiten, den schweren Keramiken bis hin zu den leichten Luft- und Lichtarbeiten. Im Dialog mit ausgewählten Werken Lucio Fontanas werden erstaunliche Parallelen anschaulich, die erlebbar machen, wie sich die Kunst vom Bild in eine sinnliche Raumerfahrung erweitert. Conquering the wall
The spectacular frescoes by Johann von Schraudolph at Speyer Cathedral are the very last testimony of a bygone era: they are one of the only murals in the style of the Nazarene movement surviving the bombings of World War II. After being locked away for more than 50 years, the “Twelve Apostles” are now on display and explored in this history of Nazarene frescoes. The book focuses on the creation of the 12 large-format frescoes known as the Twelve Apostles and the restoration process art historians and scientists are using to bring the painting back to life.

Sophie Taeuber-Arp, one of the most innovative artists of the 20th century, developed her own personal style in painting, sculpture, textiles, architecture and interior design. Her clear, non-figurative works focus on the total harmony of form and colour, rhythm and balance and consistently reflect the spirit of Concrete Art. Taeuber-Arp, who showed her work in a great number of exhibitions, was a member of international art associations as well as a teacher of textile design. She also performed as a dancer, and is the only woman to be represented on a Swiss banknote: the 50-franc note. This catalogue presents the work of the artist in an exhibition for the first time in the town of her birth in the Kirchner Museum Davos and in the Arp Museum Bahnhof Rolandseck. Otto Piene. Alchemist und Himmelsstürmer / Alchemist and Stormer of the Skies
As a co-founder (along with Heinz Mack) of the Düsseldorf-based ZERO artist group/movement, Otto Piene (1928 - 2014) is considered a major protagonist in post-war abstract art.After the break up of ZERO at Bahnhof Rolandseck in 1966, he continued to develop his oeuvre in the most varied of materials for the remainder of his life.With a focus on recurring motifs, such as the circle as a symbol of the cosmos, the catalogue reflects on a wide range of his creative output, from the early pattern, fire and smoke pieces, to the heavier pottery and the lighter air and light work.Astounding parallels become clear when the work is placed in dialogue with selected pieces by Lucio Fontana, bringing to life the way art expands from the image into a sensory spatial experience.Published on the occasion of the exhibition, Otto Piene: Alchemist und Himmelsstürmer / Alchemist and Stormer of the Skies at Arp Museum Bahnhof Rolandseck (18 March 2019 - 5 February 2020).English and German text.

Daniel Spoerri: Black on Wise
Daniel Spoerri made his name as a visual artist with his 'snare pictures' and as a pioneer of Eat Art. In his 80th year, Spoerri pays homage to Hans Arp, after whom the Arp Museum is named, with his work entitled Wei t Du, schwarzt Du? (Black on Wise), which is also the title of one of Arp's poems. The exhibition in the Arp Museum and the accompanying catalogue feature 130 distinguished works dating from the 1960s right up to Spoerri's most recent works. Included in the exhibition are the large-scale Prillwitz Idols bronzes together with a variety of wooden and bronze sculptures, fascinating picture series and the famous 'snare pictures'. For the first time also we have an opportunity to see surprising objects from Spoerri's private collections, illustrating his love of magical objects and identifying him as a passionate 'archaeologist of flea markets'.
