The book gathers contributions from the fourth conference on Information Geometry and its Applications, which was held on June 12–17, 2016, at Liblice Castle, Czech Republic on the occasion of Shun-ichi Amari’s 80th birthday and was organized by the Czech Academy of Sciences’ Institute of Information Theory and Automation. The conference received valuable financial support from the Max Planck Institute for Mathematics in the Sciences (Information Theory of Cognitive Systems Group), Czech Academy of Sciences’ Institute of Information Theory and Automation, and Università degli Studi di Roma Tor Vergata. The aim of the conference was to highlight recent advances in the field of information geometry and to identify new research directions. To this end, the event brought together leading experts in the field who, in invited talks and poster sessions, discussed both theoretical work and achievements in the many fields of application in which information geometry plays an essential role.

Principles Of Artificial Neural Networks (3rd Edition)

Artificial neural networks are most suitable for solving problems that are complex, ill-defined, highly nonlinear, of many and different variables, and/or stochastic. Such problems are abundant in medicine, in finance, in security and beyond. This volume covers the basic theory and architecture of the major artificial neural networks. Uniquely, it presents 18 complete case studies of applications of neural networks in various fields, ranging from cell-shape classification to micro-trading in finance and to constellation recognition — all with their respective source codes. These case studies demonstrate to the readers in detail how such case studies are designed and executed and how their specific results are obtained. The book is written for a one-semester graduate or senior-level undergraduate course on artificial neural networks. It is also intended to be a self-study and a reference text for scientists, engineers and for researchers in medicine, finance and data mining.

Applied Linear Algebra, Probability and Statistics

This book focuses on research in linear algebra, statistics, matrices, graphs and their applications. Many chapters in the book feature new findings due to applications of matrix and graph methods. The book also discusses rediscoveries of the subject by using new methods. Dedicated to Prof. Calyampudi Radhakrishna Rao (C.R. Rao) who has completed 100 years of legendary life and continues to inspire us all and Prof. Arbind K. Lal who has sadly departed us too early, it has contributions from collaborators, students, colleagues and admirers of Professors Rao and Lal. With many chapters on generalized inverses, matrix analysis, matrices and graphs, applied probability and statistics, and the history of ancient mathematics, this book offers a diverse array of mathematical results, techniques and applications. The book promises to be especially rewarding for readers with an interest in the focus areas of applied linear algebra, probability and statistics.

The LASER Summer School is intended for professionals from industry (engineers and managers) as well as university researchers, including PhD students. Participants learn about the most important software technology advances from pioneers in the field. Since its inception in 2004, the LASER Summer School has focused on an important software engineering topic each year. This volume contains selected lecture notes from the 10th LASER Summer School on Software Engineering: Leading-Edge Software Engineering.

This books is open access under a CC BY 4.0 license. This book summarizes work being undertaken within the collaborative MODAClouds research project, which aims to facilitate interoperability between heterogeneous Cloud platforms and remove the constraints of deployment, portability, and reversibility for end users of Cloud services. Experts involved in the project provide a clear overview of the MODAClouds approach and explain how it operates in a variety of applications. While the wide spectrum of available Clouds constitutes a vibrant technical environment, many early-stage issues pose specific challenges from a software engineering perspective. MODAClouds will provide methods, a decision...

General Relativity And Gravitational Physics - Proceedings Of The 10th Italian Conference

Ownership-based economics has led to the rapid development and apparent universal success of the market economy. It is a system built on the deception of resource availability, ill-defined profit, and misled by the idea that an invisible hand can be an equitable system of distribution. It has resulted in a high living standard for a few select individuals, but at the expense of mankind and nature, ultimately culminating in the development of human conflict. This is a book with a blueprint for the twenty-first century, proposing a two-fold approach to easing the pressure on both the human race and the world we live in. It calls for a change of mindset from ownership to stewardship and a shift of responsibility to the corporate entities as a sub-system of the market economy.

Disordered and Complex Systems

Casting a wide meaning for the terms disorder and complexity in order to gather researchers from many disciplines, the meeting covered glassy systems and neural networks, information geometry, quantum dynamics and quantum chaos, reaction-diffusion equations, and new directions in mathematical finance. The 50 papers include such discussions as the glassy dynamics of a two-dimensional non- disordered spin model, dualistic properties of the manifold of quantum states, applying the statistical mechanics of random matrices to disordered metals, steady states and long-time asymptotics of solutions of Steater's models, and scaling and multiscaling in financial markets.
