Estará a História desatualizada? A resposta a esta questão é sim, se considerarmos a História como conhecimento histórico, como resultado do estudo e da investigação sobre o passado. A análise de novas fontes, perspetivas e abordagens permite redefinir o conhecimento que temos, apesar de muitos mitos e ideias da História de Portugal continuarem a ser repetidos e permanecerem no imaginário popular. Neste sentido, o objetivo deste livro é o de atualizar muitas destas ideias, desmontando, dentro do possível, alguns destes mitos. Tomando por base 29 temas da História de Portugal, desde Viriato até ao legado da memória do império colonial, 28 autores procuraram redefinir aquilo que sabemos sobre estes assuntos. Um livro para quem quer perceber os vários aspetos de uma História longa e complexa, e não tanto os muitos e longos debates académicos que existem sobre cada assunto.

The Confraternities of Misericórdia and the Portuguese Diasporas in the Early Modern Period
During the early modern period, the brotherhoods of Misericórdia were established not only in the overseas territories ruled by the Portuguese, but also beyond their empire, reaching as far as the Philippines and Japan. The twelve chapters of this book examine this expansion by discussing different dimensions of the Misericórdias, such as administration, politics, charitable practices, finances, and forms of discrimination related to social status, gender, and race. In less than three decades, he turned Padaria Fortaleza (Fortaleza Bakery) into one of the largest industrial groups in Latin America in the cookies and pasta industry. He also owns hotels, a cement factory, a construction company, and a grain transportation port in Bahia. However, his most special feature is actually his character and the singular way he relates to people.
