Mint a legtöbb szavunk, a „furcsa” kifejezés is erodálódott az elmúlt évtizedekben, s mára könnyen rámondjuk bármire, ami idióta vagy megbotránkoztató, holott a magyar nyelv értelmező szótára elég pontosan meghatározza: „A rendestől, a megszokottól, a szabályostól meglepően és érdeklődést keltően elütő.” Tehát nem elég, ha eltér a szokványostól, mert mondjuk Zöld könyv címmel kék a borítója, hanem az is fontos, hogy ez felkeltse az olvasó érdeklődését. Ha egy ohiói amish DVD-n hallgatva a Biscaya című dalt elgondolkodik, hogy vajon az üzbég földműves miért akarja széttépni a tangóharmonikát, akkor az számára furcsa, ha csak legyint, akkor szokatlan. Szerzőink egy kalandra hívják az olvasót: döntse el, hogy a Zöld könyv furcsa vagy csupán szokatlan.
