Japankäfer, Popillia japonica
Der Blatthornkäfer Popillia japonica (Japankäfer) spielt in seinem heimischen Ökosystem in Japan eine eher unauffällige Rolle. Vor etwa 100 Jahren wurde er jedoch in die USA eingeschleppt. Da dort natürliche Gegenspieler weitgehend fehlen, breitete er sich massiv aus und verursacht bis heute hohe ökonomische Verluste. In Europa wurde der Käfer in den 70er Jahren auf den Azoren entdeckt. Im Jahr 2014 reiste er vermutlich als "Tramper“ via Luftverkehr in die Lombardei (Italien) und verursacht dort gravierende Schäden. Um eine weitere Ausbreitung zu verhindern, wurde der Japankäfer in der EU und somit auch in Deutschland als Quarantäneschädling eingestuft. Es gelten besondere Regelungen und Vorsichtsmaßnahmen, um ein Einschleppen zu verhindern und einem Ansiedeln sowie Ausbreiten vorzubeugen (Pflanzengesundheitsverordnung).
