Farming is no longer profitable with the heat and drought in Oklahoma, during the summer of 2000. Crops wither, ponds dry up, cattle die, machinery goes missing. It seems hopeless. With the responsibility of caring for her sister, Krystal Carter must also face the emotional and financial loss of the family farm. Torn between the loss of property and the pursuit of her dream she has no alternative except to sell most of her land, but keeps a plot large enough on which to rebuild the family home which burned. Krystal is determined she will rebuild her home someday soon. All hell breaks loose when Krystal places an ad for the sale of some of her land. When Krystal meets Ace Luttrell, the wealthy land developer from Dallas, she is smitten. Ace buys her land and during the preparation for developing the land, Luttrell's Big Cats uncover a bone yard on the farm. A wild hunt proceeds, to find the culprit who murdered several people and buried them there. During this hunt to solve the mystery Krystal is confronted by the villain and flees his grasp. Before leaving he sets afire the building in which she hides from him. Ace rescues her from the flames.
