Life In The Midst of COVID-19

This book includes my testimony, diary or stories during the battle against COVID-19 in the year 2020. It also includes other people’s stories which I’ve heard from the radio or read from social media. Actually if I would be going to describe this pandemic it would be like a comet which accidentally falls to the earth. It creates a big impact and causes lots of chaos to us. These are the reasons why I wrote this book: I want to share these stories to serve as an inspiration to everyone; to remind them in not giving up and to help them remember the important lessons about life. In addition, the purpose of this work is to let the people know (especially the next generation) about the learning while taking the journey in the midst of COVID-19. This will also serve as an eye opener to them about the partial happenings during the year 2020.

Our Only Hope

The most popular source of theological hope for American Christians is that of Jurgen Moltmann. Preachers, teachers, and lay people reflect Moltmann's influence, with their hope in a this-worldly eschatology and a suffering God. However, an exclusive reliance on that hope deprives the church of crucial resources in the face of global economic, environmental, and military crises. This book explores Moltmannian hope and considers its costs before looking elsewhere for additional contributions, from Thomas Aquinas's theological virtue of hope to nihilism and beyond, in order to encourage the church to sustain and practice hope in Jesus Christ, our only hope.

The Serendipity of Hope

Institutions are very precious. If any idea is going to persist into the future, then it needs an institution to keep it going. Each of us comes to understand, often only gradually over the decades, how some influences from our earlier life have affected us. Some will have been inspiring. Some will have given us direct models of how to behave or how not to behave. Indeed, it is often the case that the deeper an influence turns out to have been, in the long run, the less likely it is that we noticed it at the time it was happening. For this reason, it has become necessary to find the time to reflect on and express gratitude for the institutions that helped form who we are and the work that we...

Disciplined Hope

In a time of political turmoil, how should we pray? What is the role of prayer in resisting politics that are based on hatred and division? This book claims prayer as a way to choose hope over fear. Beginning soon after the Inauguration in 2017, Shannon Craigo-Snell offered brief, daily prayers lifting up people and groups who were actively working for the common good. These prayers, collected here, provide a historical record of the rhetorical and political outrages of the first year of the Trump Administration, as well as the actions of those who resisted. They remember the small victories, averted disasters, and ongoing struggles of people of good will. They affirm not only the practical value of political involvement, but also the spiritual value of such engagement in solidarity with those most vulnerable to destructive policies. In addition to these daily prayers, this book offers an introduction and invitation to prayer. Intercessory prayer, in particular, can bridge divides between religious traditions and cultural differences, creating a space in which diverse communities can hope together for a better world.

Most of the current scholarly literature on biblical intertextuality--or the use of the Old Testament in the New Testament--exhibits a high degree of variance regarding methodological approach. The variety of methods employed naturally yields a variety of results. Semiotics, or the study of signs and how they communicate, offers an avenue for approaching intertextual references that focuses on communication theory and meaning. In addition, semiotic theory provides an overarching methodological framework for examining intertextual references. As such, a semiotic approach can assist in creating greater methodological consistency and clarity for this nuanced area of New Testament study. The pur...
