Elements of Indian Music introduces the Indian melodic system in an accessible manner within the realm of Western music theory. It demonstrates a new archetype in music composition for composers of any genre, as well as composition teachers and anyone interested in ethnomusicology. This book contains a set of 12 etudes for piano and transcriptions for classical guitar. Each etude is about one minute in length and utilizes notes from a particular Indian scale. An intermediate to advanced skill level is required to perform each etude. Introducing Radhika Iyer’s debut collection, Why are you here? Twelve explosive short stories present twelve provoking female narratives. Iyer’s unique style is quirky yet powerful, as she illustrates a sense of otherness, as an immigrant and as a woman of colour. Iyer explores the struggle of being a woman in different cultures, as the stories take us from the harrowing results of a family scandal in Malaysia, to an internal cultural identity struggle in Dubai, to an abusive marriage amplified by the lockdown in Ireland. This collection is ultimately about the female experience, and being different culturally, and in terms of shape and size. The women of these stories face their internal and external battles, and as we follow their journeys, we come face to face with the struggle and the strength of women.
Centuries before the question 'Why mathematics was so effective in explaining nature?' Over was even asked. Galileo thought he already knew the answer! To him, mathematics was simply the language of the universe. To understand the universe he argued, one must speak this language. God is indeed a mathematician. I was inspired to write this book as I am fascinated by how maths pervades every part of our lives. Maths is as ubiquitous as the air we breathe. In fact, to the best of our knowledge, it could be argued that the whole universe is understood only through maths. We are truly standing on the shoulders of giants. Our technology-focused lives are the culmination of the thinking of a multitude of great mathematicians who have preceded us. Their thinking and development of this language of the universe leave me in awe. In this book, I try to show a little bit about how maths really affects every part of our daily lives. I am hoping to inspire the reader an interest in the topic and an appreciation of how many interesting facets there are to the subject. Finally, maths should not be feared. It is something that believes everyone can explore at a level appropriate to their interest.
