Tourism in Palestine has been receiving an increasingly important profile given its economic and religious importance and the significant role it plays in Israeli-Palestinian relations, representation of Palestinian statehood and identity, and wider Middle Eastern politics. Nevertheless, Palestine, like much of the Middle East as a whole, remains extremely underrepresented in tourism literature. This title aims to fill this void by being the first book dedicated to exploring the significance of tourism in relationship to Palestine. The book examines the role of tourism in Palestine at three main levels. First, it provides an overview of destination management and marketing issues for the tou...

The idea of putting something in hiam Ham (Jaba language) first occurred to me some decades back, actually in the early 1980's. This was shortly following the completion of my masters' degree in the nursing program at Teachers College, Columbia University, New York, in 1980. I did not immediately respond to the urge, or challenge, as you might prefer to call it at that time for a variety of reasons, including the very fact that I had also embarked on a PhD program. I later on transferred to the PhD program at Rutgers University, the State University of New Jersey, New Brunswick, New Jersey, in 1983.

Critical Theories in Dark Tourism

This book facilitates a critical investigation of gaps in theorizing and framing dark tourism by navigating through some onto-epistemological issues, theoretical entanglements, future possibilities, and the application of critical theoretical perspectives related to affect and emotions, human-animal studies, postcolonialism, feminism, trauma studies, posthumanism, power and identity. In doing so, it advances the need to connect critical theory, pragmatism and contemporary issues of social and global relevance. "Given the growing body of critical research within tourism studies, dark tourism has somewhat lagged behind. For example, critical tourism researchers have been examining postcolonial...

Despite the increased research interest in tourism in Asia, most research has focused on the key destinations (China, Macau, Hong Kong, Thailand), while neglecting other destinations which are less well explored. Little is known about the marketing efforts and practices, along with the successes and challenges, countries in the East and Southeast Asia have been experiencing. This book aims to address this oversight by exploring the marketing approaches, techniques and tools used by various countries in the region both collectively and individually to manage their tourism offerings and position them in the global tourism market: China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Macau, Mongolia, Myanmar, Vietnam. The book will be of interest to tourism marketing researchers, practitioners, academics, undergraduate and postgraduate students who will find these insightful contemporary case studies useful in the classroom.

Medieval Pharmacotherapy, Continuity and Change

The development of medical drug therapy in medieval times can be seen as an interplay between tradition and innovation. This book follows the changes in the therapy from the Arabic medicine of Ibn S n (Avicenna) to Latin medical scholasticism, aiming to trace both the continuity and the development in the theory and practice of medieval drug therapy. In this delicate balance between change and continuity a crucial role was played by the scientific community through critical rejection or acceptance of new ideas. The drug choices were in most cases rational also from the point of view of contemporary medical theory. The method used in the book for studying these choices could promote the development of a novel methodology for historical ethnopharmacology.
