Lava Jato and the Crisis In this controversial and surprising book: Geopolitics of Intervention, lawyer and political scientist Fernando Augusto Fernandes dismantles the story that Operation Car Wash was (and still is) an unsuspected investigation to combat the crimes of corrupt politicians and prominent corrupt business people. Its primary purpose was to destabilize the PT government, hit the democratic system, destroy national engineering, weaken the oil and gas program, and facilitate the looting of national wealth. All to create the conditions needed for a right-wing liberal government, which ended up resulting in the election of an underdog and the most signifi cant political, economic, social, and health crisis ever experienced by the country.
This book is about environmental and climate legal protection in the energy transition. The Paris Agreement has a binding commitment of holding the global temperature increase to 2°C while pursuing efforts to limit it to 1.5°C. To cope with the negative effects of climate changes and mitigate greenhouse gas emissions, one of the primary responses has been the deployment of renewable energy sources, transiting from fossil fuels to sustainable electricity production. However, renewable energy sources can also cause significant environmental impacts. Wind energy, for instance, can impact biodiversity, such as birds and bats, killing them when colliding with turbines and affecting their migrat...
This book analyses the treatment of income of individuals under Brazilian double taxation conventions. Each article of the Brazilian tax treaties is analysed in order to identify its characteristics, field of application, limits and criteria applied in the identification of taxpayers. The OECD Model Convention is also considered, since it is mirrored in Brazilian conventions. The analysis reveals the unconstitutional nature of Articles 17 and 19 of the Brazilian treaties as they contradict the constitutional principle of isonomy.

This book covers technologies that pose new challenges for consumer policy, creative developments that can help protect consumers’ economic interests, innovative approaches to addressing perennial consumer concerns, and the challenges entailed by emerging ways of creating and delivering consumer products and services. In addition, it reflects on past successes and failures of consumer law and policy, explores opportunities for moving consumer law in a different direction, and discusses potential threats to consumer welfare, especially in connection with the changing political landscape in many parts of the world. Several chapters examine consumer law in individual countries, while others have an international focus.
As energy innovation becomes imperative for the environment and energy security, the law must be fleet-footed to evolve in an unwieldy area of policy. This much-needed text assembles experts to analyse the most recent developments, and to postulate how human rights, sustainable development, and the eradication of energy poverty could be achieved.
