General description of the collection: The Robert L. Aston papers include a completed World War II Veterans Survey questionnaire. Aston enlisted because he saw it as his patriotic duty. His weapons, officers, and training were all adequate. In his free time, he would socialize with girls and see movies on base. He felt that segregation was necessary and the Army should never have been integrated. His "baptism of fire" was in a bombing raid on Salzbergen, Germany. He was slightly wounded by Plexiglas shrapnel and recalls that extreme cold made first aid hard to perform. He also mentioned that he was in B-24 Liberators when in transport. He never had direct contact with enemy troops, and was glad when Japan surrendered because he would not have to go on a second tour.

Master Robert Windemere is a wealthy wool merchant and furrier, a former bailiff of the city. Lady Apollonia is faced with the news of the death of her fourth son when his squire is finally able to return to her in fulfillment of a vow to his master. Losses in her personal life are echoed by an outbreak of major crime and murder in Gloucester, led by the most fiercely inhuman villain the Lady has ever encountered. Apollonia and her husband must deal with the realities of schism within the church and Wycliffe's insistence upon reform. The Lady takes up the challenge to safeguard those who serve her and find a way to rid Gloucester of vicious criminals who enjoy powerful protection.

This case shows the fall of the Aston Empire in hospitality services. It highlights the lack of succession planning that led to the collapse of the empire. Robert Aston was a renowned entrepreneur who grew a group of companies in a global environment and was able to manage and control the group in an exceptional manner. He created a diversified group of companies run by his family and was able to lead the industry in its different fields of catering, hotels, and airline hospitality. Unfortunately, the empire was divided and sold off by his family upon Aston's death. Therefore, this case study displays the worst case scenario for the lack of implementing a successful succession plan. It illustrates how a founder can strive to create a successful, family-run group, but if he fails to plan for succession, the group fails after his death. The culture created by the founder should have lasted and been followed by future generations.

Advances In Data Envelopment Analysis

Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) is often overlooked in empirical work such as diagnostic tests to determine whether the data conform with technology which, in turn, is important in identifying technical change, or finding which types of DEA models allow data transformations, including dealing with ordinal data.Advances in Data Envelopment Analysis focuses on both theoretical developments and their applications into the measurement of productive efficiency and productivity growth, such as its application to the modelling of time substitution, i.e. the problem of how to allocate resources over time, and estimating the 'value' of a Decision Making Unit (DMU).
