Practical and Theoretical Reason in Modern Philosophy
The present collection aims to examine this fertile period in the history of philosophy concerning its significance for understanding the relation between theoretical and practical reason, or, relatedly, facts and values. Our contributors have explored different important ways in which both the shortcomings and insights of the theoretical/practical distinction have shaped Western philosophy.
The Priority of Propositions. A Pragmatist Philosophy of Logic
This monograph is a defence of the Fregean take on logic. The author argues that Frege ́s projects, in logic and philosophy of language, are essentially connected and that the formalist shift produced by the work of Peano, Boole and Schroeder and continued by Hilbert and Tarski is completely alien to Frege's approach in the Begriffsschrift. A central thesis of the book is that judgeable contents, i.e. propositions, are the primary bearers of logical properties, which makes logic embedded in our conceptual system. This approach allows coherent and correct definitions of logical constants, logical consequence, and truth and connects their use to the practices of rational agents in science and everyday life.

The collection examines people’s relationships with Covid19 as an historical event, including their own experiences of living through history; their relationship with their surroundings, including their relationships with family, the soundscapes and the emotional environments of a pandemic world; the impact and tone of political rhetoric, including the use (and misuse) of wartime myths and language in the United Kingdom; and finally, what lessons can be learnt from how people discuss their own personal stories and what lessons can we draw from previous examples of storytelling in moments of crisis. The result is a fascinating and rich discussion derived from an archive full of idiosyncratic experiences of life changing during the Covid19 pandemic.

¿Cuál es la condición de la filosofía, disciplina tipificada de “crítica” por excelencia, frente al poder establecido, preeminente o hegemónico? En esta obra se analiza la relación compleja expresada en la pregunta, que sugiere un par de respuestas: o la filosofía está subordinada y en tal caso, proyecta una deferencia al poder, o la filosofía es crítica de este último, sin embargo, hasta donde el poder lo permita y no se vea afectado (en tal caso, aquélla se encontraría acotada). También se ofrecen otras alternativas para su discusión, todas ellas muy polémicas.

Paralelamente, la esfera de dificultades se ha trasladado de manera espectacular a la telaraña informática. La virtualidad se ha convertido en oleaje ideológico con el agravante del fanatismo y la contienda sin freno; claramente, el uso de herramientas digitales durante la cuarentena ha producido la “sociedad red”, predicha por Manuel Castells; o “Telépolis”, pronosticada por Javier Echeverría. Queda pendiente acotar los límites y los alcances del traslado de la vida real a la virtual.
