Uranium Mineralisation Events in Australia
"This report presents new geochronological results for five uranium deposits in Australia, detailing the timing of uranium mineralisation in relation to regional geological events. The purpose of the study is to better constrain ore genetic and exploration models for these uranium mineral systems, and ultimately to improve understanding of the uranium resource potential of the Australian continent. The work was carried out under the auspices of the Onshore Energy Security Program. Each of the five uranium deposits represents a different style of mineralisation within three broad families of uranium mineral systems: magmatic-related, basin-related, and metamorphic-related. The results contribute to the current paucity of age data for uranium deposits in Australia, and for most of the deposits the new dates are the first reported direct ages for mineralisation or associated alteration." -- Online abstract.
Gold and Intrusion-related Mo-W Mineral Systems in the Southern Thomson Orogen, New South Wales
"As part of a multidisciplinary study of the region by Geoscience Australia and the geological surveys of New South Wales and Queensland, the mineral systems at the Cuttaburra and F1 prospects have been investigated with the aim of better understanding the prospectivity of the southern Thomson Orogen. Samples from three drill holes at the Cuttaburra prospect and three drill holes at the F1 prospect were studied in detail petrographically and analysed for the following: whole-rock geochemistry; S isotopes; Pb isotopes; molybdenite Re-Os geochronology; cassiterite U-Pb geochronology; and white mica 40Ar/39Ar geochronology."--Online abstract.

Identification of a New Ca. 1660 Ma Au-Cu-Bi Metallogenic Event at Tennant Creek
"High-grade gold (Au), copper (Cu) and bismuth (Bi) ores in the Tennant Creek goldfield have been mined from hydrothermal magnetite and/or hematite-rich ironstone bodies. Less well known is a style of Au-Cu-Bi mineralisation hosted by quartz vein systems within shear zones outside ironstones. Sensitive High Resolution Ion Micro Probe (SHRIMP) U-Pb-Th analyses of hydrothermal monazite [(LREE)PO4] associated with this mineralisation style at the Orlando East Au-Cu-Bi deposit and Navigator 6 Au prospect yield ages of 1659 ± 13 Ma and 1659 ± 15 Ma, respectively. These ages are nearly 200 million years younger than the age established from ironstone-hosted ores in the district. This new result widens the exploration 'search space' for gold into rock formations previously regarded as too young to host this style of mineralisation. " -- Online abstract.
Metamorphic Evolution of Australia
"Metamorphic rocks provide a semi-continuous record of the thermal and barometric history of the crust, which is particularly useful in constraining paleo-crustal architectures, tectonic models and thereby mineral exploration. Given this importance, regional metamorphic studies in Australia have flourished during the past 30 years. However, the national metamorphic map of Australia has not been updated in more than 37 years. Here, we provide a snapshot of a national synthesis of all available quantitative metamorphic data, metamorphic chronology and metamorphic map patterns, integrated with stratigraphic, magmatic and kinematic datasets. Forty-eight orogenic cycles have been identified, spanning from the Paleoarchean to the Miocene, and most of permissible pressure (P) and temperature (T) space, indicating a wide variety of tectonic settings. This compilation provides a basis for establishing best-estimate working models for the metamorphic evolution of all orogenic systems, provinces and terranes.
