This paper reports some characterization results of the current investigation on typical tin-selenium compounds comprising of SnSe and SnSe2 in the form of thin film. The films were prepared using encapsulated selenization technique and solid state reactions, and the characterization measurements were focussed on structural, electrical, optical and thermal properties. The results showed that the films were polycrystalline, transparent to visible light, exhibiting indirect transparent to visible light, exhibiting indirect transitions at the absorption edges 0.8-1.4 eV, higher absorption coefficients - 10 5 cm-1, low electrical resistivity in the range 1.8-20.0 cm and dielectric constant - 12.13. These properties are very useful for utilization in solar cell and electronic device applications. [Authors' abstract].
