In scholarly digital editing, the established practice for semantically enriching digital texts is to add markup to a linear string of characters. Graph data-models provide an alternative approach, which is increasingly being given serious consideration. Labelled-property-graph databases, and the W3c's semantic web recommendation and associated standards (RDF and OWL) are powerful and flexible solutions to many of the problems that come with embedded markup. This volume explores the combination of scholarly digital editions, the graph data-model, and the semantic web from three perspectives: infrastructures and technologies, formal models, and projects and editions.

Since 2007 the Jaffa Cultural Heritage Project has endeavored to bring to light the vast archaeological and historical record of the site of Jaffa in Israel. Continuing the effort begun with The History and Archaeology of Jaffa 1, this volume is a collection of independent studies and final reports on smaller excavations that do not require individual book-length treatments. The OCHRE database system is an Online Cultural and Historical Research Environment that enables scholars to record, integrate, analyze, publish, and preserve their data. It provides a comprehensive framework for diverse kinds of information at all stages of research, from initial data acquisition through analysis, publication, and long-term archiving and curation of the data. Although OCHRE was originally designed to meet the needs of cultural and historical research, it can be used equally well in other academic disciplines. Its highly generic and flexible structure accommodates any observations and conceptual distinctions scholars might make in the course of their research, allowing them to retain their own terminology while integrating their information with information that has been recorded using different taxonomies.
