Brazilian Theater, 1970-2010
How did Brazilian theater survive under the military dictatorship of 1964-1985? How did it change once the regime was over? This collection of new essays is the first to cover Brazilian theater during this period. Brazilian scholars and artists discuss the history of a theater community that not only resisted the regime but reinvented itself and continued to develop more sophisticated forms of expression even in the face of competition from television and other media. The contributors recount the struggle to stage meaningful plays at a time when some artists and intellectuals were exiled, others imprisoned, tortured or killed. With the return of democracy other important issues arose: how to ensure space for different practices and for regional theater, and how to continue producing international plays that could be meaningful for a Brazilian audience.
Linhagens e noções fundamentais de improvisação teatral no Brasil
Em uma perspectiva histórico-teatral o autor investiga o que considerou serem as principais fontes matriciais para as concepções de improvisação, a saber, aquelas advindas do diretor e teórico russo Stanislavski e da vertente italiana (commedia dell'arte e Eugenio Barba). Este livro é resultado da tentativa de compreender noções fundamentais de improvisação no teatro brasileiro, presentes nas concepções de Augusto Boal e Luís Otávio Burnier. Em uma perspectiva histórico-teatral o autor investiga o que considerou serem as principais fontes matriciais para as concepções de improvisação, a saber, aquelas advindas do diretor e teórico russo Stanislavski e da vertente italiana (commedia dell'arte e Eugenio Barba). Pela análise dessas referências, seguida da investigação das obras de Boal eBurnier, o autor sugere que, de fato, é possível estabelecer comparações significativas entre a concepção de Stanislavski e Boal, de um lado, e a de Barba (diretamente relacionada à commedia dell'arte) e Burnier, de outro. A partir dessas convergências, estabelecem-se duas linhagens improvisacionais: Stanislavski-Boal; commedia dell'arte/Barba-Burnier.

Em Estudos Contemporâneos em Artes Cênicas os fios condutores da obra têm como espaço de interseção a preocupação com o fazer artístico e, mais diretamente, com os processos e as práticas de criação e ensino das Artes da Cena. Nesta coletânea, há uma tentativa de elaborar um mapeamento, pelo menos provisório, das principais linhas de pesquisa desenvolvidas pelos "atores acadêmicos" que atuam no espaço das universidades, investigando o fenômeno cênico. The Atlantic Forest
The Atlantic Forest is one of the 36 hotspots for biodiversity conservation worldwide. It is a unique, large biome (more than 3000 km in latitude; 2500 in longitude), marked by high biodiversity, high degree of endemic species and, at the same time, extremely threatened. Approximately 70% of the Brazilian population lives in the area of this biome, which makes the conflict between biodiversity conservation and the sustainability of the human population a relevant issue. This book aims to cover: 1) the historical characterization and geographic variation of the biome; 2) the distribution of the diversity of some relevant taxa; 3) the main threats to biodiversity, and 4) possible opportunities to ensure the biodiversity conservation, and the economic and social sustainability. Also, it is hoped that this book can be useful for those involved in the development of public policies aimed at the conservation of this important global biome.
