Riemannian Topology and Geometric Structures on Manifolds

Riemannian Topology and Structures on Manifolds results from a similarly entitled conference held on the occasion of Charles P. Boyer’s 65th birthday. The various contributions to this volume discuss recent advances in the areas of positive sectional curvature, Kähler and Sasakian geometry, and their interrelation to mathematical physics, especially M and superstring theory. Focusing on these fundamental ideas, this collection presents review articles, original results, and open problems of interest.

Arithmetic Differential Operators Over the P-adic Integers

This complete introduction to the study of arithmetic differential operators over the p-adic integers offers graduate students and researchers an accessible guide to this novel and promising area of mathematics. It starts with the basics and is accessible to anyone with a basic grasp of algebraic number theory.

Differential Geometry in the Large

The 2019 'Australian-German Workshop on Differential Geometry in the Large' represented an extraordinary cross section of topics across differential geometry, geometric analysis and differential topology. The two-week programme featured talks from prominent keynote speakers from across the globe, treating geometric evolution equations, structures on manifolds, non-negative curvature and Alexandrov geometry, and topics in differential topology. A joy to the expert and novice alike, this proceedings volume touches on topics as diverse as Ricci and mean curvature flow, geometric invariant theory, Alexandrov spaces, almost formality, prescribed Ricci curvature, and Kähler and Sasaki geometry.

Analog Computing

Analog computing is one of the main pillars of Unconventional Computing. Almost forgotten for decades, we now see an ever-increasing interest in electronic analog computing because it offers a path to high-performance and highly energy-efficient computing. These characteristics are of great importance in a world where vast amounts of electric energy are consumed by today’s computer systems. Analog computing can deliver efficient solutions to many computing problems, ranging from general purpose analog computation to specialised systems like analog artificial neural networks. The book “Analog Computing” has established itself over the past decade as the standard textbook on the subject ...

Pseudo-differential Operators

This Research Note deals with a structural theory of statistical experiements irrespective of the complexity of the underlying model. To avoid involved measure theoretic arguments, functional analytic means are employed following LeCam's decision theoretic approach. The book provides a self-contained and unified introduction to the concept of generalized random variables and also includes a new, systematic discussion of the multivariate and even infinite-dimensional case. After the concepts of loss functions, subfields, and conditional expectation in this context have been presented, emphasis is laid on sufficiency, invariance, as well as optimality and admissibility in unbiased estimation. An appendix is devoted to an alternative approach due to Torgersen. Apart from original results, this work also contains new proofs and characterizations of facts occurring in the periodic literature only, faciliating access also to researchers outside the fields of this branch of statistical decision theory and/or advanced measure theory.
