Corporate Hegemony through Sustainability What does the implementation of sustainability standards and SR practices do to power relationships at the local level? In this study I take an autoethnographic approach and focus on my previous employer, the oil company Bankers Petroleum Ltd. (Bankers) and their operations in Patos-Marinza, an area in south-central Albania where oil extraction facilities and residences lie close to one another. Through the lens of Political Discourse eory, I examine three grievances raised by Patos-Marinza residents and Bankers' response to these complaints. My analysis shows how community demands, that could otherwise have put pressure on improved corporate practices, were isolated and silenced in the name of sustainability and corporate responsibility. As sustainability discourses continue to expand in the corporate world, this study highlights the need to critically examine what they do in local settings, if they foster change away from harmful business models or simply function as legitimising mechanisms that allow corporate power to grow stronger.

The ocean plays a central role in the life and development of human kind. Besides space for navigation and trade (roughly 10 billion tons of commodities are transported across the oceans each year), the provision of biological and non-living resources is the most important service of the marine ecosystems. Yet, these ecosystems are increasingly impeded by human activities and interventions. Human and naturally induced changes in climate are buffered by the ocean, but its capacity to compensate the increase of CO2 in the atmosphere is at its limit. The increase of global temperatures and the decrease of oxygen concentration and pH are severe stressors for aquatic species and thus for the whol...

In the latest novel from the award-winning author of Around Again, an American takes an unexpected trip to Ireland and finds the woman she was meant to become. Newly unemployed, Sophie White has nothing better to do when her recently widowed best friend, Gina, invites her along on a much-needed, postcrisis getaway. A job offer accepted on a whim lands her in the village's craft shop, and in the position once held by Finola O'Flynn, a woman who'd swiftly left town a few years before...

In a neoliberal academia dominated by masculine ideals of measurement and performance, it is becoming more important than ever to develop alternative ways of researching and writing. This powerful new book gives voice to non-conforming narratives, suggesting innovative, messy and nuanced ways of organizing the reading and writing of scholarship in management and organization studies. In doing so it spotlights how different methods and approaches can represent voices of inequality and reveal previously silenced topics. Informed by feminist and critical perspectives, this will be an invaluable resource for current and future scholars in management and organization studies and other social sciences.

Migraine in Medicine

This book on migraine is the first machine-generated scientific book in medicine published by Springer Nature, and reflects a new publication format which focuses on literature reviews: state-of-the-art computer algorithms were applied to select relevant sources from Springer Nature journal articles, rearrange them in a topical order, and provide short summaries of these articles. Capsize

A light-hearted nautical detective story of a seventeen-ton lead keel loaded with six kilos of weapons-grade plutonium (enough for a sizeable nuclear explosion) wandering around the Riviera. Searching for it are its owner, a millionaire who wants to make a killing by selling it to the Middle East's highest bidder, a former racing skipper, his teenage son, and a tall, blonde Swedish policewoman who can dive, punch hard and shoot straight. Mix into this Provençal Bouillabaisse the Corsican Mafia, an underwater hijacking, a pink-painted racing yacht advertising a non-existant beer, and a murderous off-shore shoot-out, and you have the menu for a good weekend read.
