Introduction to Machine Learning with Python

Many Python developers are curious about what machine learning is and how it can be concretely applied to solve issues faced in businesses handling medium to large amount of data. Machine Learning with Python teaches you the basics of machine learning and provides a thorough hands-on understanding of the subject. You'll learn important machine learning concepts and algorithms, when to use them, and how to use them. The book will cover a machine learning workflow: data preprocessing and working with data, training algorithms, evaluating results, and implementing those algorithms into a production-level system.

ESSENTIALS OF AI AND SOFT COMPUTING

The book has been primarily designed for the beginners in the subject. It has been written from the students' perspective, making it easy to understand. The contents are briefly explained with the help of examples in a direct and a pragmatic approach. Each chapter begins with the basics and is standalone; the dependence of the chapters on previous concepts has been minimized. The text is aimed to balance the mix of notation and words in mathematical statements. Artificial Intelligence and Soft Computing topics are often expressed in terms of algorithms, hence key algorithms are introduced with their explanations. These algorithms are expressed in words and in an easy to understand form of st...

Genre Analysis and Corpus Design

This work in the field of digital literary stylistics and computational literary studies is concerned with theoretical concerns of literary genre, with the design of a corpus of nineteenth-century Spanish-American novels, and with its empirical analysis in terms of subgenres of the novel. The digital text corpus consists of 256 Argentine, Cuban, and Mexican novels from the period between 1830 and 1910. It has been created with the goal to analyze thematic subgenres and literary currents that were represented in numerous novels in the nineteenth century by means of computational text categorization methods. To categorize the texts, statistical classification and a family resemblance analysis relying on network analysis are used with the aim to examine how the subgenres, which are understood as communicative, conventional phenomena, can be captured on the stylistic, textual level of the novels that participate in them.

Automated Mode Recovery and Electronic Stability Control for Wendelstein 7-X Gyrotrons

Magnetic confinement fusion relies on plasma heating and plasma control using gyrotron oscillators providing at megawatt power levels. The operational reliability decreases when operating at the performance limits due to increasing parasitic mode activity. This work demonstrates for the first time the automated, fast recovery of nominal gyrotron operation during a pulse by exploiting the hysteretic gyrotron behaviour after a mode switch being in use at the Wendelstein 7-X ECRH facility.

Managing Cloud Native Data on Kubernetes

Is Kubernetes ready for stateful workloads? This open source system has become the primary platform for deploying and managing cloud native applications. But because it was originally designed for stateless workloads, working with data on Kubernetes has been challenging. If you want to avoid the inefficiencies and duplicative costs of having separate infrastructure for applications and data, this practical guide can help. Using Kubernetes as your platform, you'll learn open source technologies that are designed and built for the cloud. Authors Jeff Carpenter and Patrick McFadin provide case studies to help you explore new use cases and avoid the pitfalls others have faced. You’ll get an in...

Introduction to Machine Learning with Python

Machine learning is a subfield of artificial intelligence, broadly defined as a machine's capability to imitate intelligent human behavior. Like humans, machines become capable of making intelligent decisions by learning from their past experiences. Machine learning is being employed in many applications, including fraud detection and prevention, self-driving cars, recommendation systems, facial recognition technology, and intelligent computing. This book helps beginners learn the art and science of machine learning. It presens real-world examples that leverage the popular Python machine learning ecosystem, The topics covered in this book include machine learning basics: supervised and unsup...

A Common Law for the Age of Statutes

  • Categories: Law

Calabresi complains that we are "choking on statutes" and proposes a restoration of the courts to their common law function. From a series of lectures given by Calabresi as part of The Oliver Wendell Holmes Lectures delivered at Harvard Law School in March 1977. "In his most recent publication, A Common Law for the Age of Statutes, based on the Oliver Wendell Holmes lectures he delivered at Harvard in March of 1977, Professor Calabresi has brought his ample juristic talents to bear on a foundational problem of the legal and democratic process. He has produced a monograph that in its quality, timeliness and provocativeness is likely to stand alongside the seminal works of Ronald Dworkin and Grant Gilmore." --Allan C. Hutchinson and Derek Morgan, 82 Columbia Law Review (1982) 1752. GUIDO CALABRESI [b. 1932] is Sterling Emeritus Professor of Law and Professorial Lecturer in Law at Yale Law School. He was Dean of Yale Law School from 1985-1994 and became a United States Circuit Judge in 1994. He is also the author of The Costs of Accidents (1970), Tragic Choices (1978) and Ideals, Beliefs, Attitudes, and the Law (1985).
