Activation and Catalytic Reactions of Saturated Hydrocarbons in the Presence of Metal Complexes

This monograph is devoted to the activation and various transformations of saturated hydrocarbons (alkanes), i.e. reactions accompanied by the C-H and C-C bond cleavage. Alkanes are the main constituents of oil and natural gas, and consequently are the principal feedstocks for the chemical industry. On the other hand, these substances are known to be the least reactive organic compounds. Special attention is paid to the recently found alkane activations in the presence of metal complexes, which are described in more detail. In addition to the reactions of saturated hydrocarbons which are the main topic of this book, the activation of C-H bonds in arenes and even olefins and acetylenes are co...

This book presents the current knowledge and understanding of the biological processes involved in the orthodontic movement of teeth and discusses recent progress in the field. It links research advances to their immediate clinical applications and offers researchers and clinicians a state of the art reference on topical issues relating to orthodontic tooth movement. Biological events play a central role in the movement of teeth during orthodontic therapy. The basis for understanding the sequence of cellular events that leads to orthodontic movement has been well established in the literature through the use of animal models. In recent years, researchers and clinicians have focused their efforts on developing treatment modalities to increase the speed of orthodontic treatment and provide better anchorage options for noncompliant patients. This book will be an invaluable aid in understanding the biology of tooth movement and the relevance of the latest concepts to clinical practice.

From Black to Schwarz

From Black to Schwarz explores the long and varied history of the exchanges between African America and Germany with a particular focus on cultural interplay. Covering a wide range of media of expression - music, performance, film, scholarship, literature, visual arts, reviews - the essays collected in this volume trace and analyze a cultural interaction, collaboration and mutual transformation that began in the eighteenth century, literally boomed during the Harlem Renaissance/Weimar Republic, could not even be liquidated by the Third Reich's `Degenerate Art' campaigns, and, with new media available to further exchanges, is still increasingly empowering and inspiring participants on both sides of the Atlantic.
