The numerical simulation of fluid mechanics and heat transfer problems is now a standard part of engineering practice. The widespread availability of capable computing hardware has led to an increased demand for computer simulations of products and processes during their engineering design and manufacturing phases. The range of fluid mechanics and heat transfer applications of finite element analysis has become quite remarkable, with complex, realistic simulations being carried out on a routine basis. The award-winning first edition of The Finite Element Method in Heat Transfer and Fluid Dynamics brought this powerful methodology to those interested in applying it to the significant class of...

This book compares premetered methods to self-metered processes and addresses general properties of premetered methods. It presents specific properties of slot, slide, and curtain coating. The book is divided in three parts: Part I compares premetered methods to self-metered processes. It explains the term “premetered,” which is an expression of the law of mass conservation, and discusses the physical fluid properties that are relevant for premetered processes. Furthermore, it presents in detail the various basic flow fields that make up premetered coating methods. Lastly, it introduces the concepts of wall shear stress, residence time, and hydrodynamic assist to dynamic wetting. Part II...
"Contains proceedings of Varenna 2000, the international conference on theory and numerical methods of the navier-Stokes equations, held in Villa Monastero in Varenna, Lecco, Italy, surveying a wide range of topics in fluid mechanics, including compressible, incompressible, and non-newtonian fluids, the free boundary problem, and hydrodynamic potential theory."
Sol-Gel Techniques for Glass Producers and Users provides technological information, descriptions and characterizations of prototypes, or products already on the market, and illustrates advantages and disadvantages of the sol-gel process in comparison to other methods. The first chapter entitled "Wet Chemical Technology" gives a summary of the basic principles of the sol-gel chemistry. The most promising applications are related to coatings. Chapter 2 describes the various "Wet Chemical Coating Technologies" from glass cleaning to many deposition and post-coating treatment techniques. These include patterning of coatings through direct or indirect techniques which have became very important and for which the sol-gel processing is particularly well adapted. Chapter 3 entitled "Bulk Glass Technologies" reports on the preparation of special glasses for different applications. Chapter 4 entitled "Coatings and Materials Properties" describes the properties of the different coatings and the sol-gel materials, fibers and powders. The chapter also includes a section dedicated to the characterization techniques especially applied to sol-gel coatings and products.

These proceedings contain a selection of refereed contributions as a source of reference for all those interested in the state of the art in computational fluid dynamics. The conference brings together physicists, mathematicians and engineers to review and share recent advances in the field.
This book presents mathematical models that arise in current photographic science. The book contains seventeen chapters, each dealing with one area of photographic science, and a final chapter containing exercises. Each chapter, except the two introductory chapters, begin with general background information at a level understandable by graduate and undergraduate students. It then proceeds to develop a mathematical model, using mathematical tools such as ordinary differential equations, partial differential equations, and stochastic processes. Next, some mathematical results are mentioned, often providing a partial solution to problems raised by the model. Finally, most chapters include open problems. The last chapter of the book contains "Modeling and Applied Mathematics" exercises based on the material presented in the earlier chapters. These exercises are intended primarily for graduate students and advanced undergraduates.
