Variation in rainfall is an indicator of climate change. The study of long-term variations aids in establishing concrete evidence of changing climate and investigating the pattern further while dependable forecast models facilitate policy formulation. This study examines the rainfall trend and variability of the semi-arid Agra district and assesses rainfall in the region. Annual rainfall for 101 years from 18 grid data points was statistically analysed for the same. Upon conducting the Standard Normal Homogeneity test, Buishand's Range test, Buishand's U test and Pettitt's test it was found that the data was non-homogeneous with the breakpoint in the year 1967. The Mann-Kendall test revealed a declining trend in the annual rainfall and the Theil-Sen estimator calculated the magnitude of this declining trend to be -1.63 for the last century.

On the Wild Side

"I have always been intrigued by fringe science," writes Martin Gardner in the preface to this book, "perhaps for the same reason that I enjoy freak shows and circuses. Pseudoscientists, especially the extreme cranks, are fascinating creatures for psychological study. Moreover, I have found that one of the best ways to learn something about any branch of science is to find out where its crackpots go wrong."A unique combination of horse sense and drollery has made Martin Gardner the undisputed dean of the critics of pseudoscience. This bountiful collection of essays and articles will be wholeheartedly greeted by Gardner''s fans, as well as by new readers. This collection of articles - many of which first appeared in the Skeptical Inquirer, the New York Review of Books, and Free Inquiry - explores pseudoscience and strange religious beliefs with the author''s trademark wit and verve. Destined to be a classic of skeptical literature, this book covers a wide range of topics - including UFOs, rainmaking, ghosts, the Big Bang, ESP, Oral Roberts, as well as the early history of spiritualism and today''s bizarre "trance channeling" cults.

Unleashing Peace

It's easy to think that emotional pain and feelings of hopelessness are modern issues. But two thousand years ago, Jesus ministered to people who were also longing for peace and happiness. His answer? God's peace--his Shalom, a word so important that it's translated seventy different ways in the Bible. This often-overlooked aspect of the Christian life is the foundation for deep, meaningful happiness. In this uplifting book, Jeremiah Johnston provides a biblical perspective on living a life of Shalom. Johnston reveals: · the peace Jesus offers vs. the peace the world promises but can't deliver · how to apply God's peace to our current situation and combat anxiety, fear, and hopelessness · how to protect this perfect peace in our lives when troubles try to steal it This book is also helpful for lay leaders, pastors, and everyone else who recognizes the church's incredible opportunity today to help individuals and families dealing with anxiety and depression.

Women have a strong desire for relational connections. Relationships between women can be especially enriching, but when conflict arises, they also can be especially damaging. Too many women approach conflict as if they were unbelievers-with gossip, spiteful actions, bitterness, and even hatred. In Peacemaking Women, Tara Klena Barthel and Judy Dabler offer a meaningful, lasting message to lead women out of conflict to a state of peace where they can live as representatives of Christ to one another and well as unbelievers. With advice that is firmly rooted in Scripture, the authors bring sound, practical help for women who want to know what the Bible says about conflict resolution and how to achieve peace in their relationships with God, self, and others.

In these essays, many of which originally appeared in The Skeptical Inquirer, Scientific American, and the Los Angeles Times, Gardner spans the realms of science and mathematics, literature, philosophy, religion, and mysticism. He examines influential scientific concepts, such as the possibility of multiple universes and the theory that time can go backward.cation and Primal Scream Therapy and the dubious magic of Uri Geller, who claimed to bend spoons with his mind. With a keen skepticism he skewers the practitioners of fallacious pseudoscience, from Dr. Bruno Bettelheim's erroneous theory of autism to the cruel farces of Facilitated Communication and Primal Scream Therapy and the dubious m...

This book of fiction is about the lives of the lucky ones who are experiencing life during their 70s. Nobody likes being called a senior citizen or being pegged as a golden ager, old fogey, old-timer or an old fart and the author tries to put these monikers to rest in her book about septuagenarians. Hundreds of interviews are laced together to give the reader a glimpse of the lucky ones who are living between the ages of 70-80. If you are a septuagenarian you probably remember playing hopscotch and mumblety-peg and the landing on the moon. Gardner asked the persons interviewed what they feared the most and are they still working? Their answers to these questions are all over the place. If yo...
