There is no room for error in the drafting of Wills because when a Will comes into effect the testator is not present to revise, amend, interpret or give instructions as to his intentions. This places a special onus on the drafter to be linguistically precise and technically correct. Failure to adhere to the minutiae of the technicalities and legalities have led to many a family dispute, costly litigation, and delays in the winding up of estates, causing both emotional and financial hardship to the family of the deceased. This practical guide, written by a specialist in the drafting of wills, covers all the processes, considerations and technicalities involved in correct and sound drafting o...

Loony Intelligence How to Survive During Emotional and Economic Upheaval

The economic downturn has taken most people by surprise. Only a few economists and some so-called "whistle blowers" warned of the imminent crisis. As a psychologist, Dr. Lieselotte Badenhorst believes politicians and economists are still talking around the real issue of the crisis. Her views of the current situation are based on the reality that we as human beings have become too rational in the way we live and think. World leaders, CEOs, managers, housewives and students need to develop what she calls Loony Intelligence, or LQ. This intelligence includes spiritual, emotional and creative intelligence. LQ is the ability to deal with crisis situations or chaos. Chaos theory suggests there is ...

In No Dribbling the Squid, armchair athletes--and anyone who enjoys tales of the strange and unusual--get a front-row seat at some of the world's most mind-blowing feats of strength, endurance, and eccentricity. Here are profiles of more than 70 fringe, far-fetched, and frightening sports, all featured in up-close-and-personal photos. This book examines the trajectory of management studies in South Africa during the apartheid and post-apartheid periods. The unique political journey of South Africa provides a distinctive context in which to explore the progression of management studies within a developing state. The authors consider how Apartheid has configured the discipline of management studies to reflect certain racial, institutional and gendered trends, and analyse the extent to which these trends have adapted or changed in post-Apartheid times. Appealing to management scholars and professionals, this book provides implications for policy and practice within the South African higher education sector, and presents avenues for future research.

Durban Dialogues, Indian Voice

Durban Dialogues, Indian Voice is an anthology of five engaging and eclectic South African plays by award-winning playwright Ashwin Singh. The plays selected, namely To House, Duped, Spice ’n Stuff, Reoca Light and Beyond the Big Bangs represent the complete array of Singh’s storytelling skills in drama as well as satire. Each play reflects, in different ways, on the complexities and contradictions of life in post-Apartheid South Africa, and focuses particularly on people of Indian origin and their relationship with other South African communities. The plays present a moving portrait of a unique array of characters and are also punctuated by Singh’s trademark humour. Each one is set in Durban, South Africa’s third largest and most diverse city, and they are described by renowned academic and critic Betty Govinden as ‘undressing Durban, as they take us away from the neon lights and “candy floss” to the reality of the underbelly of post-Apartheid urban and suburban existence’.

When we think of the world's great sporting events, we tend to focus on spectacles such as the World Cup, the Olympics, the Derby, the Monaco Grand Prix or the University Boat Race. Yet there is also an alternative world of competition where participants risk life, limb and often dignity for meagre rewards in truly weird sporting pursuits. Step forward the Indonesian sport of sepak bola api, a variation of football in which the barefoot players kick a ball that is on fire; Germany's Mud Olympics, at which competitors play soccer, volleyball and handball while knee-deep in mud; yak racing from Mongolia; Oregon's Pig-N-Ford Races where drivers speed around the track while carrying a live pig u...

Critical management studies in the South African context

The purpose of this book is to establish the first formalised scholarly work on critical management studies (CMS) in the South African context. The book is a collection of seven chapters, six of which employ a conceptual methodology and one of which follows an interpretive paradigm employing qualitative methods of inquiry. CMS is a relatively young school of thought, arising in the early 1990s and still very much a peripheral movement within the academic discipline of management. South Africa has very little scholarship on CMS as precious few scholars work in this space. Furthermore, publication opportunities are virtually non-existent as CMS is virtually unknown in the South African community of management scholars. Thus, this book represents the first academic work on CMS published in South Africa, written and reviewed by scholars who are familiar with the field. The primary target readership would be management academics, but it could also be a useful reference for postgraduate students in management.
