There is a greater consciousness today of the links and inter-dependence of the two topics; scientific research which leads to a better understanding and knowledge of sustainability issues and massive transformation in digital development where the degree of susceptibility of an individual, a community, assets, or system to the impact of hazard has increased because of the physical, social, economic and environmental factors.

A Critique of Creative Shari'ah Compliance in the Islamic Finance Industry
Ahmad Alkhamees defines Creative Shari‘ah compliance as compliance with the letter but not the objectives of Shari‘ah. In recent years, Islamic finance industry practises have come under scrutiny, with strong critiques levelled against many institutions that claim to provide Shari‘ah-compliant products and services, which in fact undermine the spirit and the objectives of Shari‘ah. This book significantly contributes to the sphere of Islamic finance in three main ways. First, it critically appraises justifications of creative Shari‘ah compliance practises. Second, it examines how Shari‘ah supervisory board (SSB) governance practises, and the inconsistent fatwas issued by SSBs, contribute to the issue of creative Shari‘ah compliance. Most importantly, it suggests regulatory mechanisms which regulators can employ in Islamic countries such as Saudi Arabia and in secular countries such as the United Kingdom to deal with the issue of creative Shari‘ah compliance.

Islamic Finance and Global Capitalism

LEMBAGA KEUANGAN MIKRO SECARA umum lembaga keuangan mikro (LKM) diartikan sebagai lembaga keuangan yang melayani para pengusaha mikro. Menurut beberapa lembaga internasional seperti UNDP dan ILO dalam Hisyam (2014), lembaga keuangan mikro adalah lembaga yang melayani masyarakat yang tidak memiliki akses ke lembaga keuangan perbankan. Hal tersebut disebabkan karena masyarakat tersebut tidak dapat memenuhi persyaratan teknis yang diajukan oleh perbankan. Menurut Undang-Undang No. 1 Tahun 2013 tentang Lembaga Keuangan Mikro, definisi LKM adalah: “lembaga keuangan yang khusus didirikan untuk memberikan jasa pengembangan usaha dan pemberdayaan masyarakat, baik melalui pinjaman atau pembiayaan dalam usaha skala mikro kepada anggota dan masyarakat, pengelolaan simpanan, maupun pemberian jasa konsultasi pengembangan usaha yang tidak semata-mata mencari keuntungan”.

Terminologi kata keuangan dipilih karena dunia modern menghitung dan menyandarkan kekayaan manusia dalam bentuk nominal uang. Kekayaan selalu dihubungkan dengan jumlah uang yang melimpah dan mampu membeli berbagai jenis harta kekayaan. Buku ini ditulis dalam pendekatan studi pembangunan Islam yang menempatkan suatu topik perencanaan keuangan dalam bingkai ilmu sosial beraliran multi disiplin. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Syukri Salleh, Pendiri ISDEV USM, menjelaskan bahwa “ilmu pembangunan berdasarkan Islam adalah disiplin ilmu tersendiri yang holistik, dan menggabungkan berbagai ilmu kemanusiaan, ekonomi, sosial, politik yang ke semuanya terjalin secara integratif satu dengan lainnya”. Ditambahkan lagi sebagai dasar keilmuannya, “ilmu tersebut pengikat utamanya adalah tauhid, fikih dan tasawuf”.
