Counseling Children and Adolescents, Second Edition reviews the most relevant theoretical approaches for counseling children (CBT, emotion focused therapy, play therapy, systems theory and developmental theories) and focuses on connecting key theories to application via case studies. The book has an integrated framework that focuses on development and diversity. In addition, a unique aspect of this text is its focus on neuroscience, the developing brain, and the impact of early childhood trauma on development. Updates to the second edition include new coverage of the multicultural ethical decision model, intersectionality, implicit bias, the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, and new research and citations.
Understanding the origins of poor literacy and numeracy skills in adulthood and how to improve them is of major importance when society places a high premium on proficiency in these basic skills. This edited collection brings together the results of recent longitudinal studies that greatly extend our knowledge of what works in raising skill levels, as well as the social and economic returns to improvement. Many fundamental research questions in adult education involve change over time: how adults learn, how program participation influences their acquisition of skills and knowledge, and how their educational development interacts with their social and economic performance. Although a growing number of longitudinal studies in adult basic education have recently been completed, this book is the first systematic compilation of findings and methods. Triangulating findings from different methodological perspectives and research designs, and across countries, this text produces convergence on key conclusions about the role of basic skills in the modern life course and the most effective ways of enhancing them.
"This books takes us into the kitchens of nine women to tell the complicated story of what it takes to feed a family today. All kitchens are not equal and Pressure Cooker exposes how modern families struggle to confront high expectations and deep-seated inequalities around getting food on the table."--Jacket.
Pierre Bourdieu has been making a distinguished contribution to European sociology for the past 25 years. He is Professor of Sociology at the Collge de France in Paris and author of many influential books including, most recently, Distinction and Homo Academicus, which have both been translated into English. This book serves to introduce this important body of work to the Anglo-American world. In a cross-disciplinary collaboration Richard Harker, Cheleen Mahar and Chris Wilkes provide the reader with the necessary tools to understand this complex and rewarding body of French sociology. Post modernist sociology has already been influenced by the French theorist Foucault; it is likely that the generation to come will be reading Bourdieu.
