In this book, leading authors in the field discuss development of Ambient Assisted Living. The contributions have been chosen and invited at the 5th AAL congress, Berlin. It presents new technological developments which support the autonomy and independence of individuals with special needs. As the technological innovation raises also social issues, the book addresses micro and macro economical aspects of assistive systems and puts an additional emphasis on the ethical and legal discussion. The presentation is supported by real world examples and applications.
Work, Precarity and COVID-19
The anthology presents the social consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic in the field of work and gainful employment from a multidisciplinary perspective of social and economic sciences. Specifically, it deals with the analysis of changes in work processes and relations in the course of the COVID-19 pandemic. Different facets of the discussion are taken up, and the topic of "work, precarity and COVID-19" is discussed along a wide range of diversity categories (age, gender, disability, social origin, ethnicity, religion, etc.) and their intersections (intersectionality). At the same time, the focus is on discussing alternative models and ways of dealing with the current crisis that (re)establish social justice and inclusion through work. The translation was done with the help of artificial intelligence. A subsequent human revision was done primarily in terms of content.
Reforming the Welfare State
The welfare state in its traditional form seems no longer sustainable. At the Rothenberge Seminar 2004, a joint venture of the School of Business, Public Administration and Technology at the University of Twente, NL, and the Institute of Public Economics at the Westfaelische Wilhelms-University Muenster, D, the reform options for the welfare state as such and in particular for the health care sector were discussed. In addition to that, other topics were touched upon as environmental policy, the urban structure of Germany and the public sector in general.

Bestimmte Formen politischer Devianz werden regelmäßig für „extremistisch“ erklärt. Was damit gemeint ist, scheint intuitiv einleuchtend und wird in der „Extremismustheorie“ auch wissenschaftlich bestimmt. Verschiedene Kritiken an dieser Konzeption zeigen jedoch, dass das Extremismusmodell erhebliche analytische Schwächen aufweist und zugleich politisch folgenreich ist.
