Die Spuren
Mirosław Bałka (born 1958 in Warsaw, lives and works in Otwock, Poland) doesn't shy away from emptiness, nothingness, and death. With his existential questions, Bałka counts among the internationally bestknown Polish artists of his generation. Along with sculptures and video and sound works, his oeuvre, which has been continuously growing since the 1980s, also encompasses sitespecific installation and drawing. A point of reference in many of Bałka's works is the body--while it was present as a representational image in the early works, since the 1990s its treatment has been chiefly abstract. This deliberate move away from the figurative marks Mirosław Bałka's attempt to incorporate a broader wealth of association in his works. These are charged with the artist's many years of cultural experience based on his personal biography and on a reckoning with Poland's istory since National Socialism. With an introduction by Markus Heinzelmann, a text by Stefanie Kreuzer, and an excerpt of Klaus Theweleit's Male Fantasies.
Albrecht Schäfer: One Day
This publication surveys the work of German artist Albrecht Schäfer (born 1967) and in particular his site-specific creations for the Museum Morsbroich--a neo-Baroque castle surrounded by a moat. Drawing on the museum's architecture, the artist plays with daylight, movement and visibility in works that range from text-based installations to graceful wooden constructions.
Philosophy, Dreaming and the Literary Imagination
This book explores the intersections between dreaming and the literary imagination, in light of the findings of recent neurocognitive and empirical research, with the aim to lay a groundwork for an empirically informed aesthetics of dreaming. Drawing on perspectives from literary theory, philosophy of mind and dream research, this study investigates dreaming in relation to creativity and waking states of imagination such as writing and reading stories. Exploring the similarities and differences between the 'language' of dreams and the language of literature, it analyses the strategies employed by writers to create a sense of dream in literary fiction as well as the genres most conducive to this endeavour. The book closes with three case studies focusing on texts by Kazuo Ishiguro, Clare Boylan and John Banville to illustrate the diverse ways in which writers achieve to 'translate' the experience and 'language' of the dream.

Sancti Spíritus, Cuba, 1970; lives and works in Düsseldorf) says about the genesis of his works, which reflect his childhood and youth in socialist Cuba as well as his experience as a migrant. Experimente in den Künsten
Experimentieren ist konstitutiv für künstlerische Prozesse - umso erstaunlicher, dass künstlerische Experimente bisher überwiegend unter wissensgeschichtlicher und historischer Perspektive sowie innerhalb einzelner Künste oder im Rahmen von Spezialanalysen thematisiert worden sind. Der interdisziplinäre Band reagiert auf dieses Desiderat: Die Beiträge untersuchen experimentelle Phänomene in den Künsten aus literatur-, theater-, film-, medien-, kunst- und musikwissenschaftlichen sowie (kunst-)philosophischen Perspektiven und fokussieren Experimente im transmedialen Vergleich.
