An Addington/Chalfant Family History
Family history of Harry Vern Addington (1893-1930), son of Joseph Leander and Dora Elizabeth (Feagans) Addington, who was born in White River Twp., Randolph Co., Indiana. He married Alma Marguerite Chalfant (1905-1979) in 1922. The Addington and Feagans families were of English or Irish origin. Both families were very early settlers in Randolph County. The Addingtons arrived there about 1835 and the Feagans about 1838. The patriarch of this family, Henry Addington, was probably born in London in 1720, and immigrated to North America ca. 1740. He lived in Loudoun Co., Virginia in 1765, and moved his family between 1768 and 1774 to Union Co., South Carolina, where he received a land grant in 1774. Descendants and relatives lived in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Virginia, Indiana, North Carolina, South Carolina, Idaho, Utah, Iowa, Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, Missouri, Maryland, Colorado, Oregon, California and elsewhere.

Das von Papst Benedikt XVI. ausgerufene Priesterjahr 2009-2010 war überschattet von erschütternden Veröffentlichungen, wodurch das eigentliche Thema, die spirituelle und theologische Neubesinnung auf das Priestertum zeitweilig überdeckt wurde. Die Theologische Fakultät Fulda hat sich daher dieses wichtigen Themas im Rahmen des Kontaktstudiums im Sommersemester 2010 angenommen. Viele Baustellen der katholischen Kirche in der Schweiz stehen in einem Zusammenhang mit der abnehmenden Zahl der Diozesanpriester. Die statistischen Prognosen der vorliegenden Studie zeigen, dass sich an den rucklaufigen Zahlen auf absehbare Zeit nichts andern wird - auch weil die allgemeinen gesellschaftlichen Trends, die zu diesem Ruckgang beitragen, stabil sind. Fur die Kirche stellen sich daher nicht nur organisatorische Fragen. Vielmehr gilt es, grundsatzlich uber die zukunftige Bedeutung von Priestern, die Erwartungen an sie und ihre kirchliche und gesellschaftliche Rolle nachzudenken. In diesem Band kommen unterschiedliche Stimmen zu Wort, die ein breites Spektrum kirchlicher Positionen aus der Schweiz abdecken. Nicht nur Priesterbilder, sondern auch Kirchenbilder prallen dabei aufeinander.
Jewish Identity in the Greco-Roman World
The articles discuss various aspects of Jewish identity in the Greco-Roman period. Was there a common ‘Jewish’ identity, and how could it be defined? How could different groups develop and maintain their identity within the challenge of Hellenistic and early Roman culture? What about the images of ‘others’? How could some of those ‘others’ adopt a Jewish lifestyle or identity, whereas others, abandoned their inherited identity? Among the questions discussed are the translation of Ioudaios, Jewish and universal identity in Philo, the status of women and their conversion to Judaism, the participation of non-Jews in the temple cult, the practice of Emperor worship in Judaea, and the image of Egypt and the Nile as ‘others’ in Philo. Two articles enter the debate whether Jewish identity had an ongoing influence within early Christianity, in Paul and in the rules known as the Apostolic Decree.
