Let's Close a Deal

Close deals with major corporations, organizations or individuals who can propel your business to the next level When you think about it, our entire lives revolve around selling. Whether we sell as part of our business, serve on a committee of a non-profit organization, or negotiate for a new job/car/house, we are pitching, hearing, and closing deals every day. Let's Close a Deal articulates the intuitive process that identifies how and why a deal will appeal, and then demonstrates in step-by-step detail how to present your deal in a compelling way. The sales process is not about coercion; it's about compassion. The closing part of a negotiation should honor everyone involved instead of taki...

Danger Close

“America had a secret weapon,” writes Steve Call of the period immediately following September 11, 2001, as planners contemplated the invasion of Afghanistan. This weapon consisted of small teams of Special Forces operatives trained in close air support (CAS) who, in cooperation with the loose federation of Afghan rebels opposed to the Taliban regime, soon began achieving impressive—and unexpected—military victories over Taliban forces and the al-Qaeda terrorists they had sponsored. The astounding success of CAS tactics coupled with ground operations in Afghanistan soon drew the attention of military decision makers and would eventually factor into the planning for another campaign: ...

The mummy came to life in the 1940s out of Universal Pictures' need to produce quick turnaround, low budget "B" movies. Universal produced The Mummy's Hand, The Mummy's Tomb, The Mummy's Ghost, and The Mummy's Curse (originally The Mummy's Return) and thus created a popular franchise that is still supported today by a following of loyal fans. (Universal was prompted to produce a remake of its Mummy films in 1999.) This book is devoted entirely to Universal's Mummy movies of the 1940s. It reveals lost action and dialogue by analyzing scenes that were edited out days before The Mummy's Hand was released to theaters, treats readers to other dialogue that was filmed and then cut down to almost nothing before being included in the films, and compares and contrasts the original story of The Mummy's Return to the final shooting script of what was later renamed The Mummy's Curse. Each of the films has its own chapter, and chapters are also devoted to the actors who played the heroes, heroines, high priests, victims, and mummies in the films, and to the filmmakers who brought the mummies to life.

The File on Robert Siodmak in Hollywood, 1941-1951

Robert Siodmak, who is considered the master of film noir thrillers and crime melodramas, has long been seen as a mere "assignment director," never an artist in complete control of his work. J. Greco's study of Siodmak's Hollywood career dispels this view and presents a unique perspective on the studio system and the director who used cunning to get his own way within it. He incorporates both archival evidence and stylistic analysis to show a distinct correlation between the production histories of Siodmak's studio films and the director's central artistic purpose. Shedding new light on the career of this important film maker, this book is worthwhile reading for the film scholar, the lover of film noir, and the fan of Siodmak's work.

There are 109 poems he wrote usually when he was ill and he could not do anything else. I wanted you to get to know him and he had a wonderful spirit, full of humor, intelligent from the time of a small boy. He was fortunate to have mostly good, caring doctors and some wonderful friends. He spent one semester with a home bound teacher and graduated from Bellaire High School with his regular class. I hope the book with help those on the kidney machine or faced with a closely related illness to enjoy their life and live each day to the fullest. He taught the twins and Dad and I so much by the things he did. Our family was complete with him and we are fortunate to have had him those years. I had four wonderful sons, couldn't ask for more.

Raphael LaFontaine's parents were "root workers," hoodoo practitioners who sold potions, infusions, vapors and spells in Beauregard Parish, Louisiana. Both before and while she was pregnant with Raphael, Malina LaFontaine ingested the herbs and roots that were her and her husband's stock and trade. Perhaps as a result of this, from early childhood Raphael was afflicted with strange visions and fever dreams. He grew up considering himself a freak masquerading as a normal person, but his spells sometimes allowed him to see deeply into other people's emotions and personalities. Both a curse and a gift, these talents have served Rafe well, first as a Baltimore police officer and then as private detective. The story begins with a frayed-at-the-edges lawyer who asks Rafe to help his client with a simple matter, a hard to get rid of ex-boyfriend who also happens to be a Baltimore cop. When Rafe sets out to meet his new client he is attacked and when he wakes up he finds that nothing is what it had seemed, and that he is suspected of murdering a complete stranger. Rafe soon becomes even more deeply entangled in a confusing web of lies and murder.

Red Rock

The old Gray plantation, "Red Rock," lay at the highest part of the rich rolling country, before it rose too abruptly in the wooded foothills of the blue mountains away to the westward. As everybody in the coun-try knew, who knew anything, it took its name from the great red stain, as big as a blanket, which appeared on the huge bowlder in the grove, beside the family grave-yard, at the far end of the Red Rock gardens. And as was equally well known, or equally well believed, which amounted almost to the same thing, that stain was the blood of the Indian chief who had slain the wife of the first Jacquelin Gray who came to this part of the world: the Jacquelin who had built the first house at ...
