A vast amount of research has been conducted on the subject of single homelessness over the past decade. However, this material is often inaccessible to a wider audience - appearing in scholarly journals, or as local studies that are not generally available or advertised. This highly accessible guide is based on an in-depth review of single homelessness research in Britain throughout the 1990s and provides 200 high quality research summaries. Each summary comments on the robustness and usefulness of each study and highlights aims, methods, key findings and recommendations. The summaries are indexed by keywords covering all major areas of single homelessness research.A review of single homelessness can be used independently or read alongside the two complementary reports - A bibliography of single homelessness research and the overview report, Single homelessness. These three reports are all vital reading for researchers, policy makers and practitioners in the field of single homelessness and anyone interested in issues related to homelessness generally.

It can also be read alongside the overview report, Single homelessness. Young Homeless People and Urban Space

This ethnographic exploration of contemporary spaces of homelessness takes an expanded view of homeless space, threading together experiences of organizational spaces, routes taken through the city and the occupation of public space. Through engaging with participants' accounts of movement and place, the book argues that young homeless people become fixed in mobility, a condition that impacts on both everyday life and possible futures. Based on an innovative multi-method study of a day centre in London for young homeless people, the book contextualizes spaces of homelessness within the social relations and flows of people that produce the world city. The book considers how the biographical and everyday trajectories of young homeless people intersect with place attachments and forms of governance to produce urban homeless spaces. It provides a new angle on the city made by movement, foregrounding the impact of mobilities shaped by loss, violence and the search for opportunity. The book draws on mental maps, photography, interviews and observation in order to produce an engaging and rich ethnographic account of young homeless people in the city.

Daniel Rode works with text fragments found in literature, conversations, and public space, deliberately disregarding syntax such as spaces and line breaks. Interrupting our reading habits, they retain their indeterminacy a little longer before these fragments can be decoded by reading. Detached from their original contexts, they find their way into both large-scale installations and drawings, often created in series. Rode moves between two polar opposites-a sober, reserved aesthetic on the one hand, and a sensitive, almost tender devotion to artistic execution on the other. Again and Again offers a comprehensive insight into Rode's oeuvre, enriched by perceptive texts by 13 contributors providing an often surprisingly personal perspective on the artist and his work. DANIEL RODE (*1971, Eutin) studied in Greifswald and the Academy of Fine Arts Dresden in the class of Monika Brandmeier. He lived in Cairo from 2009 to 2014. Projects and residencies have taken him to Canada, the USA, Bahrain, Vietnam and many countries in Europe. Today, he lives in Dresden and Berlin.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of innovative housing programs for persons who are homeless or at risk of homelessness and who use substances (e.g. drugs, alcohol or other substances). The research specifically examined which housing interventions and factors that incorporate a harm reduction approach best help this population access and maintain stable housing. Three research questions were addressed: 1. How effective are innovative or alternative residential housing programs for homeless people with substance use issues, especially those that incorporate high-tolerance or harm reduction into a supported living environment? 2. To what degree is secure and stable housing crucial to successful substance use treatment models? 3. Do harm reduction strategies, as part of supportive housing, enhance the stability and longevity of housing tenure for homeless people with substance use issues?

The Dene, a traditionally nomadic people, have no word for homelessness, a rare condition in the Canadian North prior to the 1990s. In No Home in a Homeland, Julia Christensen documents the rise of Indigenous homelessness and argues that this alarming trend will continue so long as policy makers continue to ignore northern perspectives and root causes, which lie deep in the region’s colonial past. Christensen interweaves analysis of the region’s unique history with the personal stories of people living homeless in two cities – Yellowknife and Inuvik. These individual and collective narratives tell a larger story of displacement and exclusion, residential schools and family breakdown, addiction and poor mental health, poverty and unemployment, and urbanization and institutionalization. But they also tell a story of hope and renewal. Understanding what it means to be homeless in the North and how Indigenous people think about home and homemaking is the first step, Christensen argues, on the path to decolonizing existing approaches and practices.
