(Sílvio Gallo, trecho do prefácio)

Chemical Epigenetics

Chemical Epigenetics

This book presents an authoritative review of the most significant findings about all the epigenetic targets (writers, readers, and erasers) and their implication in physiology and pathology. The book also covers the design, synthesis and biological validation of epigenetic chemical modulators, which can be useful as novel chemotherapeutic agents. Particular attention is given to the chemical mechanisms of action of these molecules and to the drug discovery prose which allows their identification. This book will appeal to students who want to know the extensive progresses made by epigenetics (targets and modulators) in the last years from the beginning, and to specialized scientists who need an instrument to quickly search and check historical and/or updated notices about epigenetics.

Analysis of Complex Networks

Mathematical problems such as graph theory problems are of increasing importance for the analysis of modelling data in biomedical research such as in systems biology, neuronal network modelling etc. This book follows a new approach of including graph theory from a mathematical perspective with specific applications of graph theory in biomedical and computational sciences. The book is written by renowned experts in the field and offers valuable background information for a wide audience.

Habitus is a concept developed by the late French sociologist, Pierre Bourdieu, as a 'sense of one's place...a sense of the other's place'. It relates to our perceptions of the positions (or 'place') of ourselves and other people in the world in which we live and how these perceptions affect our actions and interactions with places and people. Habitus implies that a web of complex processes links the physical, the social and the mental. Inspired by this concept, this compelling book brings together leading scholars from interdisciplinary fields to examine ways in which spaces and places are constructed, interpreted and used by different people. This second edition contains updated chapter material, together with an entirely new introduction and revised conclusions which recognise the importance of Bourdieu's work. This publication is a tribute to Pierre Bourdieu's remarkable contribution to the fields of sociology, anthropology, geography, political philosophy and urban planning.

Systematically examining current methods and strategies, this ready reference covers a wide range of molecular structures, from organic-chemical drugs to peptides, Proteins and nucleic acids, in line with emerging new drug classes derived from biomacromolecules. A leader in the field and one of the pioneers of this young discipline has assembled here the most prominent experts from across the world to provide first-hand knowledge. While most of their methods and examples come from the area of pharmaceutical discovery and development, the approaches are equally applicable for chemical probes and diagnostics, pesticides, and any other molecule designed to interact with a biological system. Lyricism in the Brazilian Novel

This study is the first to examine the presence of prose lyricism as a tendency in Brazilian novels. In addition to examining a selection of works of fiction and writers between the nineteenth and the twenty-first centuries, the book also addresses the absence of the theme in Brazilian literary studies, exposing the origin of a prejudice against lyrical narratives in comparison with the predominant use of social realism. The author bridges this gap, bringing to light some of the implications of this absence with regards to the themes of realism and representation in national literature. She also engages with a selection of relevant theories about lyrical novels, adding to its premises recent and flexible configurations in the theory of genres. The ultimate aim of this book is to contribute to a different perception of prose lyricism and its possibilities for political engagement. This unique investigation provides readers with different degrees of knowledge about Brazilian literature the opportunity to get to know both literary movements in Brazil as well as relevant authors, such as João Guimarães Rosa, Clarice Lispector and Raduan Nassar, among many others.

The Lyrical Novel

The Lyrical Novel

The author, in defining the genre of "lyrical fiction," separates a type of .fiction that can be legitimately viewed as “poetry” from other narrative types. The lyrical novelist uses fictional devices to find an aesthetic expression for experience, achieving an effect most frequently seen in dreams, picaresques, and allegories. Analyzing representative novels by Hermann Hesse, Andre Gide, and Virginia Woolf, Ralph Freedman focuses on the problem of self-consciousness. His findings are directly applicable to much twentieth-century fiction. Originally published in 1963. The Princeton Legacy Library uses the latest print-on-demand technology to again make available previously out-of-print books from the distinguished backlist of Princeton University Press. These editions preserve the original texts of these important books while presenting them in durable paperback and hardcover editions. The goal of the Princeton Legacy Library is to vastly increase access to the rich scholarly heritage found in the thousands of books published by Princeton University Press since its founding in 1905.
