Data Structures and Efficient Algorithms
Myocarditis and idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy are being increasingly recognized as important causes of heart disease and heart failure. Immunological mechanisms have long been suspected as playing a role in thesediseases but direct evidence has been lacking. Recently, animal models have be- come available, in which myocarditis can be induced either by infection with cardiotropic viruses or by autoimmuniza- tion with heart-specific antigens. This book presents and analyzes the latest information obtained from experimental models, relating it to the practical problems of diagnosis and treatment of myocarditis.

This volume contains the proceedings of the 14th International Colloquium on Automata Languages and Programming, organized by the European Association for Theoretical Computer Science (EATCS) and held in Karlsruhe, July 13-17, 1987. Restricted-Orientation Convexity
Restricted-orientation convexity is the study of geometric objects whose intersections with lines from some fixed set are connected. This notion generalizes standard convexity and several types of nontraditional convexity. The authors explore the properties of this generalized convexity in multidimensional Euclidean space, and describ restricted-orientation analogs of lines, hyperplanes, flats, halfspaces, and identify major properties of standard convex sets that also hold for restricted-orientation convexity. They then introduce the notion of strong restricted-orientation convexity, which is an alternative generalization of convexity, and show that its properties are also similar to that of standard convexity.

This book contains a collection of survey papers in the areas of algorithms, lan guages and complexity, the three areas in which Professor Ronald V. Book has made significant contributions. As a fonner student and a co-author who have been influenced by him directly, we would like to dedicate this book to Professor Ronald V. Book to honor and celebrate his sixtieth birthday. Professor Book initiated his brilliant academic career in 1958, graduating from Grinnell College with a Bachelor of Arts degree. He obtained a Master of Arts in Teaching degree in 1960 and a Master of Arts degree in 1964 both from Wesleyan University, and a Doctor of Philosophy degree from Harvard University in 1969, under the guidance of Professor Sheila A. Greibach. Professor Book's research in discrete mathematics and theoretical com puter science is reflected in more than 150 scientific publications. These works have made a strong impact on the development of several areas of theoretical computer science. A more detailed summary of his scientific research appears in this volume separately.
Advances in Computing and Information - ICCI '91
This volume contains papers presented at the Third International Conference on Computing and Information, ICCI '91, held at Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada, May 27-29, 1991. The conference was organized by the School of Computer Science at Carleton University, and was sponsored by the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) and Carleton University. ICCI '91 was an international forum for the presentation of original results in research, development, and applications in computing and information processing.
