Reinforcement of Timber Elements in Existing Structures
By presenting the work of the RILEM Technical Committee 245-RTE, the book provides an overview of the existing techniques for the reinforcement of timber elements, joints and structures. It consists of two parts: part I examines state-of-the-art information on reinforcement techniques, summarizes the current status of standardization, and covers STS, GiR, FRP and nanotechnology. In part II several applications of reinforcement are discussed: these include traditional structures, traditional timber frame walls, light-frame shear walls, roofs, floors, and carpentry joints. Methods of Measuring Moisture in Building Materials and Structures
RILEM TC 248-MMB was established in 2012 with the main aim to improve and distribute knowledge related to moisture measurement in construction materials in various scientific and industrial applications. Properties and performance of building materials and structures are influenced to a large extent by the moisture conditions in the materials. Obvious examples are heat conductivity, shrinkage and creep, transport properties, most types of deterioration, discoloration etc. For research and applications the moisture conditions must be quantified, by measurements in the laboratory or under field conditions. There is much variation in methods being used, even within the same topic, in different countries, both with regard to materials and to applications. No consensus whatsoever does exist. For the construction industry it is important to be able to quantify the moisture conditions in an accurate way in various applications. This state-of-the-art report is divided into two parts, Principles and Applications, with altogether 28 chapters on various moisture measuring principles and a number of applications.

In his sculptures and drawings, Thomas Lerooy (*1981 in Roeselare) conjures up a fantastical world that takes spectators to the intimate frontiers of humanity, probing the dark areas and the flaws that define man's mental and physical limits. Each work evokes metaphysical questions as the artist offers his richly ironic explorations of themes such as creation, duality, captivity, transitoriness, and sexuality. Lerooy's drawings celebrate an aesthetic tradition reaching back to Leonardo da Vinci, but also recall the vanitas paintings of the seventeenth century melded with the grotesque and macabre humor of James Ensor. In his sculptures, the artist reveals his great fascination for the monumental tradition of sculpture and the meaning of "the aura" around art. Style and technique are handled in a perfectionist and mannerist way with an eye for detail and proportion.
