This book provides readers with peer-reviewed research papers presented at the 6th International Conference on Green Technology and Sustainable Development (GTSD) held in Nha Trang City, Vietnam, from July 29 to 30, 2022. The book is original work of researchers from academia and industry focusing on the theme “Green technology and sustainable development in Industrial Revolution 4.0” not only to raise awareness of the vital importance of sustainability in education, technology, and economic development, but also to highlight the essential roles of technology innovation for the green future. The book presents a wide range of research aspects including energy engineering, electric power s...
Emotional and spiritual tranquility is how some of us aspire to live by, not just the recovering alcoholics or the addicts, but almost everyone. Having emotional and spiritual tranquility, sobriety, or maturity means that many, most, or all of the obsessions had been lifted, as long as we're vigilantly working on our progress. Emotional tranquility or emotional sobriety, for many of us, simply means 'to be in the moment' (whatever it happens to be like) and to embrace the experience (as the universe and life unfold) with serenity, honesty, empathy, humility, and love - to live in harmony.
Emotional tranquility or emotional sobriety, for many of us, simply means 'to be in the moment' (whatever it happens to be like) and to embrace the experience (as the universe and life unfold) with an open mind, honesty, empathy, humility, service, and love - to live in harmony. This collection presents a possible program to lift one's obsessions and allow serenity to permeate. This book is a curated collection of ideas that had been in many religions and spiritual traditions around the world - re-framed in the twelve steps from a view of a healthcare professional.
This book presents recent research on robustness in econometrics. Robust data processing techniques – i.e., techniques that yield results minimally affected by outliers – and their applications to real-life economic and financial situations are the main focus of this book. The book also discusses applications of more traditional statistical techniques to econometric problems. Econometrics is a branch of economics that uses mathematical (especially statistical) methods to analyze economic systems, to forecast economic and financial dynamics, and to develop strategies for achieving desirable economic performance. In day-by-day data, we often encounter outliers that do not reflect the long-term economic trends, e.g., unexpected and abrupt fluctuations. As such, it is important to develop robust data processing techniques that can accommodate these fluctuations.
This book is a collection of the most unique and interesting anecdotes in the apothecary world and medicine. There is often a blurry line between history, mythology, and (urban) legends. This small book is a curated attempt to retell some of the most intriguing tales from the pharm.
This volume contains papers presented at the Sixth International Conference on Knowledge and Systems Engineering (KSE 2014), which was held in Hanoi, Vietnam, during 9–11 October, 2014. The conference was organized by the University of Engineering and Technology, Vietnam National University, Hanoi. Besides the main track of contributed papers, this proceedings feature the results of four special sessions focusing on specific topics of interest and three invited keynote speeches. The book gathers a total of 51 carefully reviewed papers describing recent advances and development on various topics including knowledge discovery and data mining, natural language processing, expert systems, intelligent decision making, computational biology, computational modeling, optimization algorithms, and industrial applications.
This thesis presents the design, modeling and experimental validation of a device that allows for apical flow over an in 'vitro small intestine model. The device is designed to interface with commercially available hanging Transwells. Design considerations and specifications are discussed, based on user considerations, mechanical requirements, and biological requirements. To create a more informed design, multiple phenomena are modeled and results are used to modify design characteristics and give insight into viable operating parameters, such as apical flow rate. Within the device, velocity profiles of media flow as well as oxygen transport and cellular oxygen consumption are modeled. Exter...
Microfluidic devices that utilize a multitude of integrated microvalves are capable of complex on-chip fluid handling operations, including metering, storage, and serial dilution. However, such devices typically require numerous chip-to-world interfaces, which in turn connect to unwieldy off-chip pneumatic and electronic components. While this control method is suitable for many functions, there are several applications (e.g. point-of-care diagnostics) where this setup is not ideal. However, basic control logic can be constructed on the chip itself in the form of pneumatic digital logic circuits, this eliminating dependence on off-chip controllers. The end goal of this integration of digital...
In 2010, the last Javan Rhino in Vietnam was poached for its horn, leading to the tragic extinction of this subspecies. Today, only a small population of Javan Rhinos remains in Ujung Kulon National Park in Java, Indonesia. Despite having no scientifically proven medical properties, rhino horns are falsely promoted as cures for various ailments, including cancer, in traditional medicine. This misinformation fuels high demand for rhino horns in Vietnam, as well as other illegal wildlife products like pangolin scales and tiger bones. In addition to poaching, habitat loss due to agricultural expansion also contributes to the decline of this species. This story is told from the perspective of Vietnam's last Javan Rhino, revealing the dangers it faced and its struggle against the merciless poachers.
