Computational Processing of the Portuguese Language
This book constitutes the thoroughly refereed proceedings of the 8th International Workshop on Computational Processing of the Portuguese Language, PROPOR 2008, held in Aveiro, Portugal, in September 2008. The 21 revised full papers and 16 revised short papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from 63 submissions. Language Acquisition Across Linguistic and Cognitive Systems
How and why do all children learn language? Why do some have difficulties while others are early language learners? What are the consequences of early bilingualism? Is it possible to reach native-like competence in a foreign language? Although we still cannot fully answer these questions, research during the last two decades has begun to solve some pieces of the puzzle. This book proposes an interdisciplinary collection of writings from some of the best specialists across several fields in cognitive science, offering a wide sample of recent advances in the study of first language acquisition, bilingualism, second language acquisition, and disorders of oral language. The Landscape of Lexicography
This book consists of a series of papers that look at three different aspects of the landscape as seen in dictionaries from across Europe. Multilingual diachronic case studies into lexicographical descriptions of flora, landscape features and colours concentrate on three supposedly simple words: daisies (Bellis perenis L.), hills and the colour red. The work is part of the ongoing LandLex initiative, originally developed as part of the COST ENeL - European Network for e-Lexicography - action. The group brings together researchers in lexicography and lexicology from across Europe and is dedicated to studying multilingual and diachronic issues in language. It aims to valorise the wealth of European language diversity as found in dictionaries by developing and testing new digital annotation tools and a historical morphological dictionary prototype. It pays a special attention to the history of linguistic interferences in each region, examining how and when lexical borrowings entered the Spanish language and how they disseminated across the Spanish-speaking world.

Vzhledem k tomu, že se výuka portugalštiny nejčastěji věnuje portugalštině standardní, případně hovorové, a jen okrajově se dotýká jazyka odborného, jedná se o práci velmi aktuální, protože reaguje na současnou potřebu, danou stále silnější integrací České republiky do Evropské unie. This publication introduces the main issues and specifics of legal Portuguese. The instruction of Portuguese generally focuses on standard or spoken language, while presenting technical and professional language only tangentially. The fact that this textbook concentrates on legal Portuguese makes it particularly relevant as it reflects the current needs arising from the ever increasing integration of the Czech Republic into the EU.
