The narrative of the remarkable life of Junipero Serra, the intrepid priest who led Spain and the Catholic Church into California in the 1700s and became a key figure in the making of the American West. In the year 1749, at the age of thirty-six, Junipero Serra left his position as a highly regarded priest in Spain for the turbulent and dangerous New World, knowing he would never return. The Spanish Crown and the Catholic Church both sought expansion in Mexico--the former in search of gold, the latter seeking souls--as well as entry into the mysterious land to the north called "California." By his death at age seventy-one, Serra had traveled more than 14,000 miles on land and sea through the New World--much of that distance on a chronically infected and painful foot--baptized and confirmed 6,000 Indians, and founded nine of California's twenty-one missions, with his followers establishing the rest.

Gathering Souls: Jesuit Missions and Missionaries in Oceania (1668–1945)
This essay deals with the missionary work of the Society of Jesus in today’s Micronesia from the seventeenth to the twentieth century. Although the Jesuit missionaries wanted to reach Japan and other Pacific islands, such as the Palau and Caroline archipelagos, the crown encouraged them to stay in the Marianas until 1769 (when the Society of Jesus was expelled from the Philippines) to evangelize the native Chamorros as well as to reinforce the Spanish presence on the fringes of the Pacific empire. In 1859, a group of Jesuit missionaries returned to the Philippines, but they never officially set foot on the Marianas during the nineteenth century. It was not until the twentieth century that they went back to Micronesia, taking charge of the mission on the Northern Marianas along with the Caroline and Marshall Islands, thus returning to one of the cradles of Jesuit martyrdom in Oceania.

Since 2007, this has benn the task of the journal "Studia et Documenta". The journal gathers together studies, annotated unpublished documents, news of academic interest, reviews and synopses, and a comprehensive bibliographic bulletin. Each volume contains in the region of 500 pages. The articles are prepared by specialists and are subjected to the peer review system.

Annually published since 1930, the International bibliography of Historical Sciences (IBOHS) is an international bibliography of the most important historical monographs and periodical articles published throughout the world, which deal with history from the earliest to the most recent times. The works are arranged systematically according to period, region or historical discipline, and within this classification alphabetically. Al llarg de la història, els oficis conventuals dels caputxins han estat en mans dels frares llecs, és a dir, germans no clergues que desenvolupen la seva vida als convents i en fraternitat amb els germans clergues. Persones no sempre prou conegudes fora de làmbit conventual, però que han tingut un paper fonamental en el desenvolupament de la vida quotidiana dels convents de portes endins. Hug Llàcer, autor del llibre, ha investigat el tema i ha recollit imatges, documentació i testimonis de frares de diversos convents per aprofundir en la història i la memòria daquests oficis. I és a través dels ulls dels germans que els han exercit, del seu testimoniatge, les seves vivències i els seus records, que el lector sendinsarà en la quotidianitat de la vida conventual passada i actual. Oficis com el de porter, almoiner, cuiner, hortolà, fabriquer, refitoler o saurí, que o bé han desaparegut o que, en lactualitat, sovint recauen en mans de personal de fora. Rememorar-los permet, doncs, recuperar un llegat humà imprescindible en la història de lorde dels caputxins.
