Mycenaean Pictorial Vase Painting
Here is a vividly written and fully illustrated assessment of the figured decoration on Late Bronze Age vessels from the Greek mainland, Cyprus, and the Aegean islands. It will become a standard source on the Mycenaean imagination. Emily Vermeuele and Vassos Karageorghis describe the hunting scenes, chariots, sphinxes and griffins, bulls and birds, people dancing or fighting, and cult scenes on Mycenaean pottery. They analyze forms and styles, sources and influences, and the development of conventions. They relate what is known about the painters and their workshops, and the overseas trade. A catalogue of the 700 remaining whole and broken examples, now in museums around the world, is appended. Over 950 illustrations provide a comprehensive view of the art. This study tells us much about Bronze Age civilization, and it opens the way to an understanding of the relationship of Greek art to figure drawing in pre-Classical times.

Ancient Cypriote Art in the National Archaeological Museum of Athens
The Cypriot Collection of the National Archaeological Museum comprises about 850 artefacts, of which several were donated by various collectors in the late 19th and early 20th century, while others, formerly illegally owned, are the product of recent confiscations. The Collection has a wealth of sculptures, pottery and terracottas, covering virtually the entire spectrum of Cypriot archaeology from the early bronze age (ca 2500 B.C.) to Roman times (4th century A.D.). The chapter on the history of the Collection was contributed by the Director of the National Archaeological Museum, Dr. Nikolaos Kaltsas.
The Cesnola Collection of Cypriot Art
The Cesnola Collection of antiquities from Cyprus preserves the island’s artistic traditions from prehistoric through Roman times and represents the first large group of ancient Mediterranean works to enter the museum’s collection. This catalogue, which focuses on Cypriot terracottas, was originally published in 2004 as a CD-ROM, and is now available in a more accessible format. It contains nearly 500 works dating from between about 2000 B.C. and the 2nd century A.D. from one of the most expansive collections of Cypriot art in the world. Illustrations of each object are accompanied by a detailed catalogue entry, including a brief bibliography. In addition, fifteen commentaries make the catalogue a perfect introduction to Cypriot terracottas and the colorful world of ancient life and mythology.
